Systems Engineer III

Job Summary:

A Systems Engineer Tier III is a key position on our Managed Services team that maintains core IT functionality for our clients. While working in a swift and timely manner, the position is the front line for the company's technical support initiatives and directly interacts with users and service providers to resolve reported service incidents and requests.

Reports To: Managed Services Support Desk Manager

Essential Functions:

• Practice strong client service to help foster and enhance our relationships with our clients.
• Benchmark, analyze, report on and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the technology infrastructure.
• Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology and will continually research industry best practices.
• Work with the end user to resolve desktop level and complex helpdesk tickets.
• Coordinate with Technology management to resolve any or one of connectivity, desktop, network, server and hardware or software-based issues.
• Mitigate future issues by monitoring and proactively resolving issues before they reach a critical state. This may involve responding to monitoring tickets and assisting with patch management.
• Create and maintain basic to moderately complex systems for the benefit of internal and external clients.
• Assist in the development of technical application design documents.
• Provide initial unit testing of all system changes with the goal of providing a stable production environment.
• Assist project team members in developing scope documents and project estimates.
• Communicate consistently and effectively with clients and business associates to build trust and create successful partnerships.
• Develop and document knowledge of internal and external clients' business and help provide options to resolve issues or proactively advance the organization forward.
• Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner, track hours and communicate status to manager.
• Track all documentation and communications through Carrier Access IT, LC.'s internal database.
• Leads by example in resolving complex technical challenges, setting a high standard for quality, accountability, and professionalism within the team.
• Provides mentorship and guidance to Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 engineers, fostering skill development through knowledge sharing, coaching, and hands-on support.
• Acts as a technical escalation point, ensuring timely resolution of high-impact issues while mentoring peers through the troubleshooting process.
• Will work in one of our offices, Clive, Cedar Rapids, or Omaha.
• Perform other tasks as needed and/or requested.

Education and Experience:

Associate or bachelor's degree and 7 years of related information systems technical experience.

Gained certifications in any of the following areas is considered a strong asset: Microsoft technologies, VMware, Cisco Duo and/or Endpoint Security, Veeam, Datto, AWS, Azure, and cybersecurity-related domains.

Competence in diverse technology skills, in any of the following areas, desktop support, network/server/voice infrastructure design/build/modification, Business application management and LAN/WAN administration.

Deep knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, User Management, Email and Cloud Technologies

Experienced in working in RMM (N-Able and Logic Monitor favorable), AV (CISCO Secure Endpoint and Microsoft Defender favorable), and Backup tools.

Plan, execute and deploy workstation, server and cloud solutions.

Experience working in ConnectWise a plus.

Experience in managing and supporting virtualization platforms, including Hyper-V and VMware (vSphere, ESXi), with a focus on general maintenance, performance optimization, and full lifecycle upgrades in enterprise environments.

Has troubleshot SAN (Pure Storage, etc.), general maintenance and support, and completed lifecycle upgrades.

Experience working with Domain Services (DHCP,DNS Active Directory Group Policy).

External DNS modification - Understanding on how external records work (MX, TXT, A, AAAA).

Certificate Administration- Internal (Microsoft CA) and External.

Proficient in supporting and troubleshooting virtual desktop infrastructure solutions, including VMware Horizon and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD), with hands-on experience across associated technologies such as App Volumes, Dynamic Environment Manager (DEM), NVIDIA GRID, Connection Servers, Unified Access Gateway (UAG), and FSLogix. Capable of diagnosing complex issues and optimizing performance across the full VDI stack.

MDM Management: how to enroll devices and troubleshot issues with compliance and deploy applications (Intune, WS1, JAMF).

Advanced proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automating system administration tasks, streamlining infrastructure management, and developing custom scripts to support complex enterprise environments.

Public Cloud Services experience, such as AWS, Azure, Office 365.
