Precision Mechanical Design Engineer — AS9100 Manufacturing

Rand Aerospace and Defense
Falconer, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 10/8/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/31/2027

Role Overview

Picture your day: you open a SolidWorks model to refine a critical component, run a tolerance stack, and push a prototype through its paces to confirm performance. By midday, you’re huddled with manufacturing, quality, and procurement to align on materials, cost, and schedule. In the afternoon, you document design updates, verify that every requirement meets customer specifications and industry standards, and close the loop on action items to keep the project on track. If that sounds like your kind of rhythm, you’ll thrive here.

As a key contributor on our engineering team, you will design, analyze, and improve mechanical systems and components for diverse, fast-moving projects—bridging product development with production to deliver reliable, efficient, and compliant solutions.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and iterate mechanical components and processes using CAD (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Creo).
  • Build and test prototypes to validate function and performance; translate results into design refinements.
  • Ensure designs conform to customer specifications, industry regulations, and internal standards.
  • Collaborate across manufacturing, quality, and procurement to remove roadblocks and advance project goals.
  • Communicate technical insights and status updates clearly to stakeholders.
  • Own schedules and deliverables to drive successful project execution.
  • Guide components from development into production; troubleshoot and resolve production issues.
  • Champion process improvements that increase efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Maintain complete, accurate engineering documentation—drawings, specifications, and process details.
  • Ensure compliance with Rand’s AS9100 Quality Management System.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field preferred.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or Creo).
  • Strong analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of materials science, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems.
  • Effective communicator who can work independently and in cross-functional teams; solid project management skills.
  • Bonus points for: experience in defense-related manufacturing, CNC machining, and prior management experience.
