What are the responsibilities and job description for the Men's Part time Peer Support/Ministry Support Specialist (PT* Alternating weekends* 8hr Shift) position at Raleigh Rescue Mission?
ROLE MISSION
As a Peer Support Specialist at Raleigh Rescue Mission, you are responsible for proactively engaging individuals who are not yet a part of the New Life Program through handing out meals, responding to inquiry calls, talking to individuals in front of our building, and various other opportunities of connection.
Additionally, this role provides peer support, coaching, and modeling to current clients around healthy daily life skills and practices. This role supports and encourages clients as they connect to community outside the Mission in recovery groups like AA, NA, and Celebrate Recovery, and the development of lifestyle habits like daily chores, devotions, fitness, and staying clean.
Client Engagement
- Proactively build relationships and encourage clients in the program, including sitting with clients during mealtimes and engaging in meaningful conversations
- Provide the first level of client support via phone and desk services and redirect client to the proper channel for follow-up
- Listen to clients, pray with clients, and communicate with the entire Raleigh Rescue Mission team to provide feedback and insight on client status
- Lead fun activities on the floor in the evening and on the weekends
- Lead de-escalation of clients in crisis
COMPETENCIES
- Guide clients through the daily schedule and flow on the floor
- Encourage, engage, and train a wide-variety of clients with a Christ-centered approach
- Recognize and plan for potential obstacles on the floor, proactively raising the flag on client concerns
- Execute on tasks with minimal supervision, proactively identifying and solving client issues
- Provide insight and wisdom within cross-team discussions, while ensuring teammates and fellow employees always feel a sense of belonging and support
- Ability to manage sources of tension common to a social services environment, while escalating as appropriate
- Collaborative, generous in offering your experience and ideas to help shape client and team growth
·Valid driver license and the willingness to drive a 12-passenger van. (A valid driver’s license is required as well as a passing Motor Vehicle background check. Periodic MVR checks will be done to ensure continued ability to drive. If at any point you lose your driving privileges, it is your responsibility to report that to the Manager immediately.)
