Senior Project Engineer
Location: Carlsbad, CA
We are partnered with a well‑established, family‑owned commercial general contractor to identify a Senior Project Engineer for their growing Carlsbad / North San Diego County operations.
Our client delivers complex projects across Life Sciences, Healthcare, Commercial/Institutional, and Industrial markets and is known for high standards of safety, quality, and long‑term client relationships. The Opportunity
The Senior Project Engineer will play a key role in supporting Project Managers and Superintendents on ground‑up and technically complex commercial construction projects. This position offers meaningful responsibility, exposure to high‑profile work, and the opportunity to mentor junior engineers while contributing across all phases of construction—from preconstruction through closeout.
Projects are primarily located throughout Carlsbad and greater San Diego County, with a strong focus on life sciences and healthcare facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a liaison between owners, architects, consultants, subcontractors, and internal project teams
- Manage RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, contracts, and change orders using Procore or similar platforms
- Support master schedules, material procurement, and superintendent 3‑week look‑ahead planning
- Assist with cost tracking, subcontractor pay applications, change management, and monthly cost reporting
- Mentor and oversee Project Engineers assigned to the project
- Participate in project, coordination, and safety meetings; prepare and distribute meeting minutes
- Support jobsite safety and quality control initiatives
- Assist with project closeout activities including punch lists, warranties, and O&M manuals
What Our Client Is Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- 5 years of experience with a commercial general contractor
- Experience supporting ground‑up commercial construction projects
- Proficiency with Procore (or similar), MS Project, and Microsoft Office
- Ability to read, interpret, and coordinate complex drawings and specifications
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and leadership mindset
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
- Experience with healthcare or life sciences construction is highly preferred.
- LEED, DBIA, PMP certifications and OSHA training are a plus.

- Base salary: $90,000 – $120,000 (depending on experience)
