Purpose of the Position
Rainbow Community Care is currently accepting applications for a part time Chaplain/Spiritual Counselor. The Chaplain is a member of the interdisciplinary team and provides spiritual and bereavement support according to patient’s/family’s wishes and belief system consistent with Rainbow Community Care’s policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation and coordination of Rainbow Community Care’s spiritual and bereavement services programs and the delivery of those services to patients/families.
- Provide direct spiritual support and/or counsel to patients/families while keeping with patients’/families’ beliefs.
- Work with staff, clergy, and community groups to enhance their sensitivity to the spiritual concerns of patients/families experiencing terminal illness and loss.
- Participate in patient conferences by exploring and assessing the potential spiritual needs of patients/families and reporting on services as indicated.
- Provide bereavement follow-up services as defined by Rainbow Community Cares’s procedures.
- Maintain proper records of visits to patients/families.
- Make contact with clergy or appropriate representatives of patients/families as indicated.
- Perform occasional liturgical assignments such as the annual Memorial Service and memorial services with staff.
- Conduct or make arrangements for funeral or memorial services when indicated.
- Other assignments as needed.
Qualifications
- Prefer graduate of accredited seminary or school of theology or appropriate certification in hospital or pastoral ministry.
- Demonstrated ability to be open, sensitive, flexible, and ecumenical.
- Demonstrated experience in working with patients/families with life-threatening illness and death and grief.
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and proof of current car insurance are required upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Must be able to drive to and from care facilities, patient homes, and/or other locations as necessary for your role.
- Must be able to maintain healthy boundaries and positive interpersonal relationships.
- Must be tactful and courteous in communication with others, whether in-person, by phone, or in writing.
- Must act with integrity and demonstrate good work ethics including reliable attendance and punctuality.
