Administrative Assistant
Position Overview
The Administrative Assistant provides essential clerical, administrative, and operational support to the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). This position supports daily office operations by processing correspondence, maintaining files, supporting time and attendance activities, handling routine documentation, and assisting with travel and training request routing. The role requires accuracy, professionalism, confidentiality, and the ability to follow BEA administrative procedures and Government standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Process inter-office, incoming, and outgoing mail.
- Track, log, and route incoming and outgoing official correspondence.
- Copy, scan, file, and maintain documents in physical and electronic filing systems.
- Support document control by logging and tracking administrative records and official documents.
- Serve as a GovTA timekeeper for direct-hire employees, as assigned.
- Route travel reimbursement requests and training requests for review and approval.
- Provide general scheduling, meeting logistics, recordkeeping, and clerical support.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling Government documents, employee information, and administrative records.
- Coordinate with BEA administrative and programmatic staff to ensure timely and accurate completion of assigned tasks.
- Use Microsoft Office tools to prepare, update, and maintain routine administrative documents.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum high school diploma or GED required.
- Experience providing clerical, administrative, records, correspondence, or office support in a professional environment preferred.
- Experience supporting Federal, statistical, research, financial, or Government office environments is a plus.
- Ability to work Monday through Friday during normal business hours and support BEA operations at the primary place of performance.
Required Skills
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and basic document formatting.
- Mail processing, scanning, filing, and records organization.
- Timekeeping or time and attendance support, preferably GovTA.
- Correspondence tracking and document control.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Professional communication and customer service.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Ability to follow Government procedures, security rules, and administrative instructions.
Certification Requirement
No specific certification is required. Personnel must complete any Government-required training and certifications necessary to maintain physical and/or logical access to BEA spaces.
Clearance / Security Requirement
Personnel are subject to Government suitability requirements, PIV processing, E-Verify employment eligibility verification, Real ID-compliant credential requirements, and BEA security procedures. Personnel may be required to sign an NDA and protect Government, sensitive, Privacy Act, and confidential information.
Salary Range
