#### Position Description

  • LOCATION:**Queen Anne's County, Maryland

**JOB SUMMARY**

  • The salary for this position is the minimum of the range.**Plans, organizes, and directs recreational activities and programs in response to community requests, needs and interests. This position is responsible for performing mid-level recreation and sports management tasks.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**

Provides cordial, responsive, and accurate customer service.

Meets with citizens, community groups, park and recreation councils, Board of Education staff, professional organizations, and local government representatives to identify needs, plan programs, solve problems, recruit volunteers and community advocates, and answer questions about County Park and Recreation activities in the area.

Handles inquiries and complaints from the general public.

Assesses community recreation requirements, plans, and analyzes cost implications, develops program concepts and preliminary reports for submission to and approval by department management.

Prepares surveys and evaluations, meets with vendors, exchanges information with other government representatives, and attends professional conferences and workshops to identify new programs, trends, methods, designs, and equipment to meet the changing recreational needs of the public.

Recruits, interviews, hires, monitors, counsels, and evaluates contractual, part-time, and full-time employees to present/conduct recreation programs. Recommends disciplinary action.

Monitors and plans recreation and sports programs, special events, tournaments, leagues, trips, camps, enterprise facility operations, classes, childcare programs, and other recreation/enterprise programs as assigned.

Registers recreation program participants and prepares and issues receipts for funds collected.

Prepares press releases and designs publicity brochures/flyers regarding forthcoming recreation programs and delivers these items as necessary. Prepares correspondence and reports and maintains statistics.

Represents department as assigned, reviews, and approves time sheets for recreation staff and procures supplies and materials as required for program operations.

**SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES**

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Countys policies and applicable laws; responsibilities may include interviewing, recommending, and selecting candidates for employment; training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising employee performance; counseling, rewarding and disciplining employees; investigating employee grievances; approving and mediating disciplinary action; and addressing and resolving complaints.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**

Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities; skill in written and verbal communication; knowledge of M.S. Office computer applications to successfully complete spreadsheets, word processing tasks, e-mail, and program flyers; ability to correctly use grammar, spelling and punctuation; ability to understand and follow clear work instructions.

**CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS**

Possession of a Class C Maryland Motor Vehicle Operators License (or the equivalent from another issuing state) or the ability to obtain such a license within thirty (30) days of employment to position.

NIMS TRAINING

The following National Inc dent Management System (NIMS) Training is required within the first year of employment:

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**

Bachelors degree in Recreation, Sport Management, or a degree in related field, or 4 years experience in Recreation or related field.

**PHYSICAL DEMANDS**

Typically sit at a desk or computer table; occasionally walk, stand or stoop; occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighting up to 50 lbs; use office equipment requiring above average degree of dexterity.Concentration to detail on more complex issues is required.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**

Work is performed in an office-like setting with occasional duties in outside weather conditions.Noise level is usually moderate.

**COMMENTS**

This position has been designated as an ESSENTIAL POSITION when activation for emergencies under the County plan and may be required to report to or remain on duty when County offices are closed due to inclement weather or for other reasons.

Employees must conform to applicable policies and safety rules.

This position is one within the Queen Annes County Civil Service System.An employee must serve a period of twelve months probation during which he or she may be terminated without notice, cause, hearing or right of appeal.
