#### Position Description
Provides cordial, responsive, and accurate customer service.
Operates hand, motorized and electrical tools.
Performs routine maintenance and makes minor repairs to vehicles and small equipment.
Collects, removes, processes and/or disposes of solid waste.
Operates all heavy equipment for Division.
Plows and removes snow.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Raking stone and other activities related to road re-surfacing.
Cleanings drainage ditches.
Removes tree limbs and debris from roadway.
Trims bushes and trees.
Performs traffic control by flagging.
Assists in operation of stone box in re-surfacing operations.
Operates all heavy equipment.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**

Language Skills
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers written in English.Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply basic math skills.Ability to perform these operations using standard units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
Ability to maintain cooperative, working relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities.
**CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS**
Possession of a Class B Commercial Drivers License issued by the Maryland MVA; (or equivalent).Airbrake endorsement is required.
Certifications required for Roads: Chainsaw, Forklift, Bucket Truck and Flagger.
**NIMS TRAINING**
The following National Incident Management System (NIMS) Training is required within the first year of employment:
Non-supervisory Employees Course 700
**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
A High School Diploma or a GED, and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience in heavy equipment operation.
Additional considerations for internal career ladder promotions, the following must also be achieved:
Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, and controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear.Occasionally required to sit.
Requires regular lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally 100 pounds.Specific vision abilities re uired by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

**WORK ENVIRONMENT**
Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is exposed to vibration.The employee may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

This position has been designated as an ESSENTIAL POSITION and may be required to report to or remain on duty when County offices are closed due to inclement weather or for other reasons.
An employee in this position may be required to work shift work, overtime, weekends, and holidays and/or remain on standby for a call back to work.
Employees must conform to applicable policies and safety rules.
This position is one within the Queen Annes County Civil Service System.An employee must serve a period of twelve months probation during which he or she may be terminated without notice, cause, hearing or right of appeal.

- LOCATION:**Queen Anne's County, Maryland
- The salary for this position is the minimum of the range.**This position performs a wide range of manual labor functions in support of the Department of Public Works.Under direct supervision of a maintenance supervisor, performs miscellaneous physical tasks related to the maintenance of County roads and solid waste management systems.

- Concurrence of promotion from supervisor
- Demonstration of progressive advancement in level of work duties and responsibilities
