SQL Database Administrator

Quantam Solutions provides IT solutions and consulting for various clients. We offer competitive hourly wages, health benefits, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan. We are currently seeking a SQL Database Administrator. The work schedule is hybrid with two days onsite and three days remote.

Responsibilities:

• Review and comply with policies and procedures.
• Perform data analysis and database management, including maintenance, enhancements, data dictionaries, logical and physical database models, and performance tuning.
• Use utilities and production tools for data storage management to support applications, with proficiency in PowerShell or Python.
• Design logical and physical databases and review database design changes to understand their impact.
• Establish physical database parameters.
• Use structured query language (SQL) to define database objects using database definition language (DDL) and control access using data control language (DCL).
• Specify database identifiers, database descriptions, and user access levels, including insert, replace, retrieve, and delete permissions.
• Test, correct, and refine database changes.
• Create production databases using SQL.
• Use database utility programs and third-party utilities to monitor database performance, record distribution, and available memory.
• Work with programmers and analysts to make changes to database management systems.
• Review and correct programs, answer user questions, and assess the impact of database changes on other systems, staff, and costs.
• Modify database programs to improve processing performance through performance tuning.
• Plan, develop, maintain, and monitor integrated database systems.
• Ensure new application designs are consistent with database environment standards and structural parameters.
• Evaluate user requests for new data elements and systems and incorporate them into the shared data environment.
• Coordinate data use to ensure data integrity and reduce redundancy.
• Load and reorganize databases as needed.
• Perform data modeling and prototyping, including logical, physical, and relational database modeling.
• Perform security and recovery procedures.
• Determine and implement database search strategies and storage requirements.
• Maintain the data dictionary, ensure consistent definitions, and set standards for data dictionary use.
• Monitor database performance and recommend efficiency improvements.
• Create test database environments for applications, including necessary libraries and procedures.
• Save, retrieve, and recover databases from hardware and software failures using established procedures.
• Assist with database security standards, disaster recovery procedures, and disaster recovery systems.
• Assist with database software installation, analysis, design, implementation, benchmarking, threshold testing, security controls, and database management software selection.
• Apply knowledge of computer systems analysis, computer programming, systems design, computer operations, project control, cost estimating, programming languages, data processing flowcharting, database structures, database theory, and current database technologies.

Required Qualifications:

• Required. 3–5 years - Implement native, cloud-native, and hybrid cross-site backup and recovery strategies.
• Required. 3–5 years - Configure SQL Server on physical hardware, VMs, and cloud IaaS virtual machines.
• Required. 3–5 years. Enforce data masking, encryption (TDE), and Row-Level Security for internal customers.
• Required. 3–5 years. Manage automated indexing, statistics, and integrity checks across fragmented environments.
• PowerShell / CLI Automation: Required. 2–3 years. Automate hybrid environment configuration using PowerShell, dba tools, and Cloud CLIs.
• Required. 2–3 years. Analyze metrics across physical servers, IaaS VMs, and PaaS endpoints.
• Required. 3–5 years. Identify bottlenecks, rewrite T-SQL, and resolve locking/blocking issues.
• Required. 2–3 years. Manage connectivity between on-premises SQL Servers and cloud environments.
• Required. 2–3 years. Configure Azure SQL Database, Managed Instances, or AWS RDS SQL Server. Cloud Migration: Preferred. 1–2 years. Move workloads from on premises to cloud using Azure Database Migration Service or AWS SMS.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Preferred. 1–2 years. Schema deployment automation via Azure DevOps/GitHub Actions using Flyway or Redgate. Multi-Tenant.
