Overview
As a Quality Control & Research & Development Manager, you are responsible for leading the company's quality control and research & development efforts to ensure consistent product quality, optimize yields, and drive innovation. You will play an integral part in ensuring that all products are of the best possible quality and installed correctly. You will be responsible for all products from the very beginning of the manufacturing process until the completion of the installation process. You will ensure that all our technical testing is up to par and meets code, as well as making sure we meet the standards with ICC. You will also be responsible for ensuring samples are of the utmost quality. You will be onsite at jobsites to inspect installation quality as well as product quality and report back to the plant with your findings.
Responsibilities
Manage all QC and R&D personnel, systems, and processes
· Oversee inspection and testing of raw materials, mix designs, in-process materials, and finished products.
· Develop and manage data collection systems to monitor product quality and yields.
· Analyze data to identify trends, process deviations, and improvement opportunities.
· Collaborate with production teams to address nonconformance issues and implement corrective actions.
· Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and applicable ASTM specifications.
Maintain all QC documentation, testing records, and audit reports for ICC compliance
· Ensure samples are completed correctly and in a timely manner
· Set standards for mold quality. Determine when to remove molds and track molds that are removed
· Conduct routine jobsite inspections to evaluate stone veneer installation practices and workmanship.
· Verify compliance with installation guidelines, substrate preparation, mortar use, and overall finish quality.
· Provide coaching, feedback, and recommendations to installation teams to improve consistency and craftsmanship.
· Develop field inspection reports, checklists, and best practice guides to standardize installation quality.
· Communicate findings between field operations and manufacturing to address root causes and prevent repeat issues.
· Recognize difference between product defects and poor installation on jobsites
· Lead the development and testing of new stone veneer products, colors, textures, and mix designs.
· Research new materials, additives, and production methods to enhance performance and reduce waste.
· Collaborate with production teams to transition new product concepts into scalable manufacturing processes.
· Conduct lab and field testing of prototypes and analyze performance results.
· Track industry trends and standards to ensure product innovation aligns with market needs.
· Drive continuous improvement initiatives across production and installation operations.
· Identify opportunities to enhance product consistency, yield, and installation efficiency.
· Develop and report on quality and R&D KPIs to senior management.
· Recommend investments in equipment, technology, or training to improve quality outcomes.
· Foster a culture on continuous improvement and accountability
Qualifications
- Ability to lead and direct individuals to complete a common goal
· Organized, detail-oriented, able to multi-task
· Willing to assume a variety of responsibilities ranging from office work to physical labor if needed
· Must be able to think critically and effectively solve problems under pressure.
· Good written and oral communication skills
· Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
· Willingness to assist where needed.
· Willing to work a varied schedule (early morning, evening, and Saturdays if needed)
· Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality
· Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
· Display proficient computer skills (Microsoft word, excel, outlook & ERP)
· Ability to travel regularly to job sites and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
