Position Title: Middle/High School Adjustment Counselor
Reports to: Building Principal – Quaboag Regional Middle/High School
Primary Function: The Middle/High School Adjustment Counselor supports students’ social,
emotional, and behavioral well-being to promote academic success and
personal growth. This role involves providing counseling services, crisis
intervention, and collaboration with staff, families, and outside agencies to
address students’ individual needs.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
Appropriate state licensure/certification (e.g., School Adjustment Counselor, School
Social Worker)
Experience working with children and adolescents in a school or clinical setting preferred
Knowledge of child development, behavioral interventions, and mental health practices
Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
Responsibilities:
Counseling & Direct Student Supports
o Provide individual and small group counseling
o Support Students dealing with:
Mental Health Concerns
Behavioral Challenges
Social or peer issues
Responsible for coordinating reentry meetings for students in a temporary
outplacement
Social-Emotional & Behavioral Interventions
o Collaborates with BCBA/RBTs
o Teach coping skills, emotional regulation, and conflict resolution
o Supports All Programmatic Staff and students, as well as all QRMHS students
Special Education & Student Support Teams
o Participates in IEP Meetings, 504 plan development, and Student intervention
teams
o Provides counseling services outlined in IEPs
o Tracks progress and writes reports on student outcomes
Crisis Intervention & Risk Assessment
o Respond to crises such as: suicidal ideation, behavioral escalations, trauma or
family emergencies
o Conduct risk assessments and safety planning
o Help develop school crisis protocols
Family & Community Engagement
o Communicates regularly with families
o Connects students to outside mental health or social services when necessary
o Assists with Mandated Reporting
o Collaboration with outside providers
o Support families in addressing home-related challenges impacting school
Prevention & School Climate
o Collaborates around bullying prevention, peer mediation, and substance use
education
o Promotes a positive and inclusive school climate
o Advocates for students' well-being and equity
o Consults regularly with staff regarding Social Emotional Learning
