Quality Patient Centered Services (QPCS) is seeking an experienced and dependable Correctional Licensed Practical Nurse to provide essential healthcare services at SCI Somerset, a Pennsylvania Department of Corrections facility.

Candidates must be flexible regarding overtime, holiday assignments, and additional scheduling needs when required by the facility.

Choose the Pay Tier That Works for You

• Tier 1 – W-2, benefit eligible: $37 per hour
• Tier 2 – W-2, not benefit eligible: $41 per hour
• 1099 independent contractor: $44 per hour

About the Role

As a Correctional LPN, you will provide practical nursing care to incarcerated individuals under the direction of a registered nurse or physician. You will administer medications and treatments, monitor patient conditions, respond to medical concerns, and help maintain a safe and respectful care environment.

What You’ll Do

Responsibilities may include:

• Providing compassionate, hands-on nursing care to incarcerated individuals
• Implementing established nursing care plans
• Administering prescribed medications and treatments
• Monitoring patients and promptly reporting changes in their condition
• Taking and recording vital signs
• Collecting specimens and assisting with routine clinical procedures
• Assisting patients with hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and other daily living needs
• Responding to medical emergencies and providing first aid
• Documenting assessments, medications, treatments, and patient responses accurately
• Maintaining complete and confidential electronic medical records
• Following correctional healthcare regulations, security procedures, and facility standards
• Communicating effectively with patients, correctional officers, and healthcare professionals
• Promoting a safe, professional, and secure environment
• Participating in required correctional nursing training and continuing education

Expert-Level Expectations

The selected LPN should be recognized as highly knowledgeable in practical nursing care and capable of:

• Providing clinical guidance within the LPN scope of practice
• Answering questions related to routine nursing care
• Troubleshooting patient-care concerns
• Recognizing changes in patient condition and initiating an appropriate response
• Prioritizing care for patients with varied medical needs
• Remaining calm and professional during emergencies
• Supporting compliance with clinical, regulatory, and security requirements
• Contributing positively to a multidisciplinary healthcare team

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have:

• A current, unrestricted Pennsylvania LPN license
• Graduation from an accredited practical nursing program
• Proficiency in written and spoken English
• Strong practical-nursing and patient-assessment skills
• Competency with electronic medical record systems
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office
• Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and safety-awareness skills
• The ability to provide verifiable education, training, licensure, and employment history
• The flexibility to work the assigned shift, holidays, overtime, and additional schedules when required

Candidates must be able to:

• Perform routine nursing and physical-care duties
• Lift and assist with patient mobility
• Stand or walk for extended periods
• Respond promptly during medical emergencies
• Use healthcare technology and electronic documentation systems
• Work effectively within a secure correctional environment

Additional facility-specific screening, clearances, and training may be required.
