What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant II position at PUTNAM COUNTY HOSPITAL?
Assists in providing staffing for both rooming & patient communications for the Cardiology outpatient clinic & providers. This includes being trained and educated in multiple EMRs and working directly within the Cardiology specialty as a rooming & clerical MA.
- Welcomes patients and visitors to the medical office by greeting patients and visitors in person and on the telephone and answering inquiries or referring questions to other staff members
- Collects vitals, weight, and patient information and completes any initial testing in preparation for provider
- Completes medication reconciliation
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Prepares charts/clinics - obtains external patient information and adds to chart for specialty provider
- Answers, triages, and appropriately routes incoming calls
- Efficient performs EKG & A1C testing on all patients who provider requests
- Knows how to operate and smoothly work within EMR systems, specialty dependent
Job Requirements:
• Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
• Obtain BLS within 6 months of hire
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Exceptional customer service skills with a patient-first mindset
• Ability to adapt as new EMRs and specialties are added to the clinic
• Understanding of completing prior authorizations and other insurance needs
• Ability to work directly with medical providers and other office staff
• Experience in a medical office
• Ability to work well with a rural health/diverse population
• Ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines
• Abides by all HIPAA and hospital policies and procedures
Preferred Skills:
• Medical Assisting certification or Associates of Applied Science for Medical Assisting
• Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn multiple electronic medical record (EMR) systems including Epic, Allscripts, CPSI, and Synapse testing
• Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurances
