The College of Science seeks an academic advising professional who will contribute to exemplary advising services for Physics students at our Purdue West Lafayette location. If you desire to significantly impact the Purdue undergraduate experience in a collaborative team environment where your strengths and contributions are valued, this may be the professional experience you’ve been working towards.
College of Science advising is predicated on the belief that individualized relationships set the stage for student success and high advisor impact and satisfaction. As an Academic Advisor you will promote an inclusive environment that challenges and supports students by providing meaningful opportunities for student learning, development, and integration of curricular and co-curricular experiences. Advisors empower students to be active, responsible learners while guiding students to make well-informed decisions that lead to achieving students' educational, career, and life goals.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
The University Undergraduate Academic Advising office offers an Advisor Certification Program, a centralized professional development opportunity that allows new advisors to develop their foundational skills in a cohort with other new advisors. Advisors receive real-time feedback and training, including mentoring experience.

- Provide equity-minded, student-centered academic advising
- Advise students on course selection, registration, and degree requirements
- Coordinate registration, degree audits, graduation reviews, and academic policy implementation
- Interpret and apply university, college, and departmental policies and procedures
- Educate students on academic structures, policies, and degree progress requirements
- Maintain caseload management, including appointment systems, student records, and communications
- Conduct regular, data-informed outreach to support student success and retention
- Connect students with campus resources, programs, and opportunities
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners on student success and retention initiatives
- Support advising assessment, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts
- Contribute to development of advising processes, communication strategies, and operational workflows
- Assist with curriculum changes, catalog updates, and academic planning processes
- Participate in orientation, recruitment, outreach, and other student success programming
- Serve as a liaison between students, faculty, and administration to ensure consistency in advising practices across the department

- Participation in the Inclusive Advising initiative provides a unique learning experience grounded in the specific voices and experiences of Purdue students and advisors. Inclusive Advising learning opportunities are cohort-based and designed to encourage learning and intentional reflection. Inclusive advising centers the student in an asset-framed approach where the advisor differentiates educational guidance to meet students where they are and acknowledges the critical value of each student’s unique social capital
- An institutional commitment to an advising ratio of 225:1, providing one of the lowest advising caseloads in the country
- Membership in PACADA, The Purdue Academic Advising Association, the longest-standing allied membership in NACADA, with a proud tradition of 36 years of professional development support and community among Purdue advisors

What We're Looking For
Education and Experience Required:
- Must have an earned graduate or professional degree in a field relevant to the position.
- Three (3) years of relevant work experience required
- Equivalencies are not accepted
- Experience with student advising
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and administer academic policy necessary
- Basic skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
- Must:
- have excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, establish priorities, and resolve conflict
- be able to collaborate with faculty, staff, students and parents
- Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue University
- Purdue University will not sponsor employment authorization for this position
- A background check will be required for employment in this position
- FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime)
