Landscape Technician

Join a team that keeps Purdue University’s campus thriving and beautiful. As part of the Grounds Department within Physical Facilities, you’ll have an active role in caring for the outdoor spaces that welcome students, faculty, staff, and visitors year-round.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Grounds Maintenance worker, you will:
- Perform general landscape and grounds maintenance including mowing, fertilizing, edging, trimming, and maintaining turf, shrubs, and trees.
- Operate various types of landscape equipment such as riding mowers, aerators, rototillers, lawn sweepers, and carts.
- Prepare areas for planting, lay sod, sow seed, prune shrubbery, plant flowers and bulbs, and maintain flowerbeds.
- Assist with landscape renovation, irrigation, pesticide application, and other seasonal grounds duties.
- Maintain appropriate records and assist with routine equipment maintenance or minor repairs.
- Work overtime as needed for special events and participate in campus snow removal operations.
- Be available for 24-hour call-backs during emergency situations.
What You’ll Need:
- Experience in grounds or landscape maintenance preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A commitment to safety and quality in daily work.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
The typical schedule is 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. The pay range is $17.85–$19.85 per hour, depending on experience. This is a dual-level posting and may be filled as an Associate Grounds Maintenance Worker (S1) or Grounds Maintenance Worker (S2), depending on the candidate’s skills and qualifications.

Minimum requirements include:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Basic grounds maintenance functions of mowing/trimming, mulching, shrub pruning, pesticide application, and grounds cleanliness helpful
- Valid driver’s license
