The Shop Manager energizes the team and drives shop success by taking ownership of complex repair projects, ensuring every job is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality, safety, and customer satisfaction. This leader sets a fast pace for the shop, coordinates schedules, directs material flow, and develops a skilled, motivated team. Responsibility for both technical results and logistics—including inventory, shipping/receiving, and staging—guarantees efficient workflow for every project. Proactive communication, customer focus, and a passion for continuous improvement make the manager a key force in building shop excellence. Skills Needed

  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Strong computer literacy; ability to use databases and mobile technology (computer, tablet, phone)
  • Problem-solving mindset and knowledge of basic continuous improvement methods
  • Ability to collaborate with internal teams and communicate effectively with customers in person, by phone, and via email
  • Leadership skills to develop direct reports and influence others positively
  • Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and maintain poise in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic knowledge of materials management and project workflow through a repair shop
  • Advanced technical expertise in pump repair, rotating equipment, and associated mechanical/electrical systems

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead regular production meetings to coordinate schedules, monitor material costs, and deliver jobs on time and on budget for customers
  • Manage job records for all shop work, both physically and digitally
  • Develop and train a skilled shop team of pump mechanics and material handlers, foster accountability and growth
  • Set and uphold quality standards, performing regular checks and implementing improvements to guarantee high-quality repairs and customer satisfaction
  • Oversee shop equipment maintenance and general facility condition to ensure operational readiness and a safe work environment
  • Assist with hands-on job completion in shop/field, stepping in as needed to support the team
  • Organize and oversee material flow, including shipping, receiving, inventory control, WIP, and job staging
  • Implement company safety protocols in daily operations

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with managers, sales, and purchasing to conduct job walks, scope projects, estimate costs, and ensure scheduling for successful job completion
  • Work with purchasing, vendors, and team members to procure all necessary job materials
  • Partner with Field Service Manager and other departments to deliver customer solutions and fulfill job requirements
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, recognize achievements, and provide constructive feedback to promote staff development and retention
  • Serve as a champion for solving challenges and driving daily results with creativity and entrepreneurial energy
  • Direct all department activities, ensuring compliance with paperwork, safety, and company protocols
  • Manage employee training and certifications for ongoing professional development and technical competency
