Our Sustainable Investments team is currently seeking an Associate Investment Manager to support the Investment Manager in overseeing the Emerging Manager Program and drive our CalPERS mission. Duties include but are not limited to:
Support the design and execution of CalPERS’ Emerging Manager Program across asset classes, including manager sourcing, evaluation, and implementation of standardized selection and reporting frameworks aligned with Total Fund objectives.
Lead coordination and reporting for emerging manager initiatives, including preparation of legislative reports, the execution of external manager surveys, Investment Committee materials, and senior leadership briefings to ensure transparency, accountability, and program effectiveness.
Drive internal and external engagement efforts, including communication with investment managers, advisors, and institutional stakeholders, to enhance program visibility, strengthen pipeline development, and support strategic partnerships.
Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

This position is eligible for annual and long-term incentive awards. The annual incentive opportunity is 0-60% of salary and is based on the level of achievement against several quantitative and qualitative measures. The long-term incentive program provides an additional opportunity of 0-60% of base salary beginning after five years and when absolute total fund returns meet or exceed board-approved thresholds.
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Experience in conducting qualitative and quantitative research on investment managers, particularly early stage managers in the private markets
Experience in leading projects with cross-asset class collaborative projects
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, well-written and well-organized memos, reports, and correspondence
Possession of an advanced degree, such as MBA, JD
Certification(s) such as CFA or CAIA is beneficial, but not required
Salary : $131,250 - $218,750
