Job Overview:

This Assistant I - Underwriting role supports a Managing General Agency (MGA) underwriting team in a hybrid work environment. The position focuses on production support, policy documentation, and cross-functional collaboration to enable sound risk selection and profitable growth. You will gain exposure to catastrophic modeling, agency management, and core insurance operations while working closely with underwriting, claims, compliance, and product teams. This contract role is expected to last 6–12 months, with a temp-to-hire goal depending on performance, business needs, and work volume.

Responsibilities:

• Work on a hybrid schedule (initially Tuesday–Thursday onsite) and adapt to schedule changes after the first 90 days as business needs evolve.
• Provide production and operational support to the underwriting team within a Managing General Agency (MGA) environment.
• Assist in the time-sensitive distribution of policy correspondence and legal documents via physical mail and email, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Support building inspections to validate information provided, ensuring it is accurate and consistent with underwriting requirements.
• Identify and communicate non-standard or atypical findings from inspections within established service standards.
• Gain an understanding of agency management, product distribution, and claims procedures to support growth and underwriting profitability.
• Professionally communicate with internal and external stakeholders via email and other appropriate communication methods.
• Work cross-functionally with Compliance, Claims, Product, Underwriting, and other business units to support process improvements and product enhancements.
• Provide input and feedback to leadership to drive continuous process improvement and operational efficiency.
• Fill in for other team members during peak periods or absences to ensure business continuity and consistent service levels.
• Apply analytical skills to support sound risk selection and contribute to business results.
• Participate in hands-on training and development activities designed to build technical and professional skills.

• Excellent customer service and written/verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and MS Teams.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team that values communication, empathy, and mutual support.
• Comfort working in a hybrid environment and adapting to evolving business needs.
• Insurance, mortgage, or closely related office experience (preferred).
• Successful completion of insurance and/or financial designations (preferred).
• Familiarity with building construction types and terminology (preferred).

Pay Range: $20 - $25/hour on W2

The specific compensation for this position will be determined by several factors, including the scope, complexity, and location of the role, as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
