Pharmacist in Charge / Director of Pharmacy Operations (Sterile Compounding | High-Volume Mail Order)

They're a fast-growing 503A compounding pharmacy specializing in high-volume fulfillment, including sterile preparations. They're seeking a Director of Pharmacy Operations to own day-to-day production, fulfillment, quality, and compliance, driving accuracy, throughput, and a best-in-class patient experience at scale. This role may be held by a licensed pharmacist or by an experienced pharmacy operations leader with deep mail-order and sterile compounding expertise.
Operational Leadership
Ensure full compliance with USP //, state Board of Pharmacy rules, DEA (if applicable), and internal SOPs.Oversee environmental monitoring, sterility/endotoxin testing oversight, batch records, deviations/CAPA, complaint handling, and recall readiness. Maintain inspection readiness; lead audits and corrective actions.
People & Culture
Track A - Pharmacist
RPh/PharmD with active state license (or ability to obtain quickly). 3 years in sterile compounding leadership within a high-volume environment; strong command of USP / and EM/testing oversight.Proven success leading teams and scaling mail-order or centralized fulfillment. 5 years leadership in high-volume mail-order pharmacy or healthcare fulfillment with sterile compounding exposure and tight regulatory operations. Deep knowledge of regulated workflows, documentation, audits, and QA/CAPA; comfortable partnering with PIC and QA to maintain compliance.

Operational Leadership
- Lead daily sterile and non-sterile operations: scheduling, staffing, throughput, and on-time shipping for high-volume mail order.
- Optimize end-to-end workflow from intake → verification → batch prep → compounding → QC release → packing → last-mile shipping (including cold-chain).
- Build capacity models, labor plans, and dashboards to meet demand spikes and growth targets.
Ensure full compliance with USP //, state Board of Pharmacy rules, DEA (if applicable), and internal SOPs.
- Hire, train, and coach pharmacists/techs/supervisors; develop leaders; enforce competency sign-offs and ongoing education.
- Drive a safety-first culture with impeccable documentation and GMP-like discipline appropriate for 503A.
- Own KPIs: first-pass yield, fill accuracy, EM trends, OOS/defect rate, cycle time per order, cost/order, on-time ship %, patient issue rate.
- Implement Lean/6σ practices, mistake-proofing, and automation where practical (labeling, batching, pick/pack, verification).
- Partner with IT to maximize the pharmacy management system, eRx/EPCS, PDMP workflows, inventory controls, and scanning/barcoding.
- Oversee purchasing, lot control, quarantine/release, FEFO, and vendor management for APIs, excipients, disposables, and packaging.
- Manage cold-chain packaging standards, shipping profiles, and carrier SLAs (UPS/FedEx/USPS).
- Collaborate with Clinical, QA/Compliance, Customer Support, and Finance on new product launches (e.g., GLP-1s), pricing/costing, and service levels.
- Forecast volumes with Sales/Account Management; translate into production plans.
Track A - Pharmacist
- Familiarity with cold-chain packaging validation, carrier claims prevention, and cost optimization.
- Track record implementing barcoding/scanning, batch automation, or robotics.
- Multi-state non-resident operations experience; licensing coordination.
- Systems thinker who loves measurable results and clean documentation.
- Calm under volume spikes; coaches teams to standard work.
- Hands-on leader who walks the floor and solves problems in real time.
- Full-time, on-site leadership presence; occasional evenings/weekends for inventory counts, validations, or go-lives; limited on-call.
