Key responsibilities include maintaining personnel records, supporting employee relations activities, and ensuring confidentiality in all tasks. The role is an essential part of the HR team, working closely with the Manager of Payroll & Benefits and other HR staff to achieve departmental objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Process bi-weekly and monthly payroll for employees and volunteers using ADP.
- Calculate regular pay, overtime, deductions, garnishments, and PTO.
- Maintain payroll databases and resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Prepare and audit payroll reports; support internal and external audits.
- Assist with payroll policy updates, time card/pay code training, and compensation surveys.
- Process terminations and notify relevant stakeholders.
- Provide accurate, timely responses to employee payroll/HR inquiries.
- Maintain personnel policies knowledge, including Union Contract.
- Support HR initiatives, audits, and employee communications.
- Generate reports for finance and HR leadership.
- Ensure compliance with State and Federal labor laws.
- Cross-train with other HR team members and act as back-up as needed.
- Bachelor's Degree - preferred although not required
- HR certification is a plus
- Minimum 1-year direct payroll processing experience required, 2 years preferred (ADP or similar software preferred)
- Strong data entry, reporting, and Excel skills (formulas, 10-key)
- Strong proficiency in Word and Excel
- Knowledge of HRIS database systems
- Thorough knowledge of office procedures and equipment
- Demonstrated wage and hour law knowledge and excellent writing skills
- Experience with conducting group orientations and training sessions- preferred
- Prior labor/employee relations experience- preferred
- Travel to other county offices may be needed on occasion, requiring reliable transportation
