Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Previous experience in:
- Clinical Anesthesia & Sedation Care
- Assist in the administration and monitoring of anesthesia and sedation services for pediatric dental procedures in accordance with California regulations and facility protocols.
- Collaborate with the supervising dental anesthesiologist and surgical team to develop individualized anesthesia care plans.
- Conduct pre-anesthesia patient assessments, including review of medical history, medications, allergies, airway evaluation, and ASA classification.
- Monitor patients throughout sedation and recovery using appropriate anesthesia monitoring equipment, including:
- Pulse oximetry
- ECG/EKG
- Capnography
- Blood pressure monitoring
- Temperature monitoring
- Assist with airway management and emergency interventions as needed.
- Administer and document medications, anesthetic agents, and adjunct therapies in compliance with applicable laws and clinical protocols.
- Evaluate patient readiness for discharge and oversee post-anesthesia recovery care.
- Provide compassionate, developmentally appropriate care to pediatric patients and reassurance to families.
- Maintain a calm, safe, and supportive clinical environment during sedation and recovery.
- Recognize and respond promptly to pediatric anesthesia or sedation complications.
- Work collaboratively with:
- Dental anesthesiologists

- Oral healthcare providers

- Surgical support staff
- Participate in surgical safety time-outs and emergency response drills.
- Support efficient patient flow while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety.
- Accurately complete anesthesia records, sedation documentation, medication logs, and recovery notes.
- Maintain compliance with:
- California Board regulations

- HIPAA requirements
- Infection control standards
- ACLS/PALS protocols
- Facility sedation policies and procedures
- Participate in quality assurance and patient safety initiatives.
- Emergency Preparedness
- Maintain readiness for pediatric airway emergencies and anesthesia-related complications.
- Assist with emergency equipment checks and crash cart preparedness.
- Participate in mock emergency drills and continuing education activities.
- Current unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Current certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
- Graduation from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of anesthesia experience preferred.
- Experience working with pediatric patients strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of anesthesia monitoring equipment and pediatric airway management.
Previous experience in:
- Pediatric dental anesthesia
- Ambulatory surgery centers
- Outpatient surgical environments
- Sedation dentistry
- Familiarity with California dental sedation regulations.
