Associate Attorney- Insurance Defense & Civil Litigation

Summary

Our client, a well-established law firm with a diverse litigation practice, is seeking an Associate Attorney with 2-5 years of experience to join its Chattanooga office. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated attorney looking to grow within a collaborative environment and gain hands-on litigation experience across a broad range of matters, with a primary focus on insurance defense. The firm represents clients across multiple industries, including insurance, construction, real estate, healthcare, and general commercial sectors. The ideal candidate will have prior insurance defense experience and a strong desire to develop and expand their litigation practice.

Responsibilities

• Manage and assist with an active caseload of approximately 20-25 matters (based on experience level)
• Conduct claim investigation, analysis, and reporting
• Draft pleadings, motions, and other litigation documents
• Perform legal research and drafting of legal memoranda
• Handle discovery and case development activities
• Participate in alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and settlement discussions
• Present oral arguments at motion hearings, trial, and appellate proceedings
• Support partners on complex litigation matters
• Contribute to the development of additional practice areas based on interest and expertise
  
  

Practice Focus

• Approximately 75% Insurance Defense Litigation
• 15% Workers' Compensation
• 10% General Civil Litigation (including commercial, construction, and real estate matters)
  
  

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
• 2-5 years of litigation experience
• Prior experience in insurance defense strongly preferred
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Experience handling pleadings, motions, and discovery
• Ability to manage multiple cases in a fast-paced environment
• Strong advocacy and communication skills
