This role is with a growing semiconductor equipment provider supporting their North Phoenix, AZ client location. This role requires onsite 5 days a week working a standard day shift Monday to Friday. The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive health, safety, and environmental (EHS) programs to ensure a safe workplace, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation. This senior role reports to executive leadership and collaborates across departments to foster a culture of safety, prevent incidents, and support organizational goals. The position requires strong leadership to manage audits, training, and incident response while staying abreast of evolving regulations like OSHA and EPA standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Policy Development and Compliance
- Create, update, and enforce health and safety policies, procedures, and programs aligned with local, state, federal, and industry regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
- Incorporate customer site-specific safety requirements, rules, tribal knowledge, and best practices into all documentation, risk assessments, and operational protocols.
- Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments to identify hazards in workplace environments, equipment, and processes.
- Ensure seamless integration of client-specific standards, on-site tribal knowledge (e.g., critical unwritten insights from long-term personnel or local teams), and culturally or geographically unique safety practices.
Risk Management and Inspections
- Perform on-site inspections, hazard evaluations, and environmental impact assessments.
- Recommend corrective actions, equipment upgrades, or process changes to eliminate or minimize risks, including those related to ergonomics, chemical handling, and emergency preparedness.
Training and Education
- Design and deliver safety training programs for employees on topics such as emergency procedures, workplace hazards, PPE usage, and incident reporting.
- Track training completion and evaluate program effectiveness through KPIs like incident rates and employee feedback.
Incident Investigation and Reporting
- Lead investigations into accidents, near-misses, and environmental incidents to determine root causes.
- Develop preventive measures, maintain detailed records, and prepare reports for regulatory agencies, management, and insurance purposes.
Program Oversight and Metrics
- Monitor safety performance using key indicators (e.g., lost time injury rates, audit scores).
- Manage safety committees, coordinate with external auditors, and integrate EHS into business operations to support sustainable growth.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, auditing techniques, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Analytical mindset with proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, safety software like iAuditor or Enablon).
- Ability to handle emergencies calmly and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting.
- Willingness to travel, physical ability to conduct site inspections, and a commitment to ethical practices.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Advanced certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or NEBOSH Diploma are highly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years in health and safety roles.
- Proven track record in high-risk environments (e.g., manufacturing, construction, or consulting) and familiarity with safety management systems like ISO 45001.
