Primary Purpose:
The Literacy Coach provides targeted instructional coaching and support to teachers in the area of literacy, with a primary focus on supporting teachers through successful completion of TEA Reading Academy. This position builds teacher capacity through job-embedded professional learning rooted in the Science of Reading, effective literacy instructional practices, and analysis of student literacy data. The Literacy Coach increases the overall quality of literacy instruction and accelerates student growth across elementary campuses.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate in assigned content area
Master’s degree in a relevant field is preferred
Successful completion of TEA Reading Academy Cohort Leader Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Extensive expertise in literacy instruction and related strategies
- Deep knowledge of TEA Reading Academy content, coaching requirements, and participant completion timelines
- Strong knowledge of working within and providing support to Professional Learning Communities
- Experience leading professional learning
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of assessment tools and strategies for measuring literacy growth
- Experience with data analysis and using data to inform instructional decisions
Experience:
Three (3) or more years of classroom teaching experience Instructional coaching experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Program
1. Serve as the primary Reading Academy coach for assigned participants, providing one-on-one instructional coaching, monitoring progress toward completion, and maintaining documentation in alignment with TEA guidelines and timelines.
2. Provide one-on-one instructional coaching as well as ongoing support and feedback to teachers to improve literacy instruction practices.
3. Collaboratively develop and deliver professional development workshops and training sessions focused on evidence-based literacy instructional strategies and Reading Academy content.
4. Model effective teaching practices in literacy instruction through co-teaching and demonstration lessons.
5. Collaborate with directors, coordinators, instructional coaches, and teachers to analyze student data and identify areas for improvement in literacy achievement.
6. Assist the coordinator in the selection and implementation of instructional materials and resources to support literacy instruction.
7. Participate in professional learning communities and other collaborative structures to support continuous improvement in literacy instruction.

9. Establish and maintain a professional relationship with teachers, administrators, and other stakeholders.
