ABOUT PROJECT VIDA

Our mission is to improve quality of life and reduce health disparities in underserved communities by promoting self-empowerment and providing holistic health education and direct services. Project VIDA was founded in 1992 to address the urgent needs of racial and ethnic minorities. Initially, the organization provided HIV education through street outreach services to area youth. Today, we have expanded our community scope by initiating a variety of programs: direct services for people infected or affected by HIV/AIDS and various prevention and health education programs.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, responsibilities include individual and group-level mental health screenings, assessments, counseling, and referral(s) of all clients receiving services within Project VIDA’s Behavioral Health program. Direct service team consultations and education regarding mental health and substance use issues of both dual program clients and the mental health and substance use issues of the community at large. Facilitation of support groups focusing on various topics such as depression, anxiety, anger management, stress management, medication adherence, substance use, and development of social supports.

This role reports to the Director of Clinical Services.

JOB DUTIES

  • Secures clients’ medical, psychosocial, and wellness/lifestyle information and evaluates these areas through comprehensive biopsychosocial, mental health, and substance use assessments
  • Conducts intake sessions and maintains paperwork in confidential client charts
  • Develops individualized treatment plans for each client and maintains updated notes and plans in the client database and charts
  • Conducts support groups for English- and Spanish-speaking clients, assists in developing curriculum, recruiting speakers, and planning specific topics for the groups
  • Provides referrals and documents follow-up for referrals
  • Conducts outreach sessions in conjunction with agency staff to recruit new clients in spaces frequented by people who are navigating substance use, are unhoused, engaging in sex work, and/or under-resourced
  • Assumes responsibility for the accuracy, substance, and timeliness of program data, reports, projects, schedules, and other relevant work products
  • Enters data in client-level database system and submits reports to the Executive Director and/or the Director of Clinical Services, and upon approval, to the funders within the designated timelines
  • Maintains an appropriate professional demeanor toward co-workers, visitors, clients, supervisors, and all others
  • Adheres to professional standards as outlined by governmental bodies, funding sources, organization plans/policies/procedures, and program guidelines
  • Participates in periodic evaluative reviews and all internal and external required staff training and meetings
  • Provides clinical supervision for interns and other non-licensed staff
  • Can serve as an advocate for clients’ needs, keeping clients informed of new policies, services, and other events that can help enrich their well-being
  • Conducts training for agency staff around mental health topics such as inclusive language, de-escalation, emotional intelligence, etc.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or related field required
  • Clinical Licensure (LCPC, LCSW, LMFT, or PsyD) required
  • Cultural/lifestyle sensitivity to African American, Latino, and LGBT populations is required
  • Working a schedule that will include a combination of mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends required
  • Comfort working with individuals navigating active substance use and/or unmedicated/undiagnosed mental health conditions required
  • At least three years of post-licensure experience directly serving clients in mental health and/or substance use treatment services
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • CADC or other substance use/addiction certification preferred
  • Knowledge and previous work in the HIV care field are strongly preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a diverse team
  • Presentation/group facilitation skills
  • Related lived experience is highly valued and considered a significant asset for this position, recognizing the unique insights and trust built through shared experience
