What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Project Estimator position at Progressive?
Seeking a Project Estimator in Richmond, VA area to support the Electric Transmission Engineering team with estimating projects. Job Summary
- Provide detailed estimate reports for high voltage transmission line projects. This will include, but not limited to, new lines, re-building and modifying existing facilities, fiber installations, and customer relocations.
- Provide original and revised project estimates in support of the annual capital budget development process.
- Identifying and estimating labor, material, equipment, services and other costs for projects.
- Review technical drawings and create complete estimate packages for Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) approval.
- Support estimates for projects going through the State Cooperation Commission application process.
- Interface with other departments or groups such as Project Management, Construction, Supply Chain, Permitting & Route Selection, Real Estate, Right of Way Administration, and Transmission O&M to ensure accuracy of estimates.
- Assesses workload and completion deadlines; able to multitask by estimating multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong computer skills including the ability to use estimating tools, spreadsheets, database applications and Microsoft products.
- 3 years of directly related experience in the estimating field including but not limited to financial estimation, construction and/or engineering.
- Preferred knowledge of SUCCESS (RIB US Cost Success) and Sage estimating software.
- Ability to perform in a high pace, multi-task environment and to independently plan and organize work schedule.
- Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with project teams, customers, other utilities, and government agencies.
- Must be able to review and understand scopes.
- Strong computer skills and application of pre-packaged software programs.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Must understand the project life cycle and cost that come from project supporting activities.
- Requires deep knowledge of general industry news and trends, general industry and construction costs and inflation rates.
- Must be highly motivated, able to work with minimal supervision and have effective communication skills.
- Bachelors Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education
- Disciplines preferred: Business, Construction Management, Engineering, Engineering Technology, Finance.
- Preferred Certifications: Certified Professional Estimator, Certified Estimating Professional, Certified Cost Estimator
