Progressive Hydraulics, Inc. (PHI) is a family-owned and operated business with an established history in Hydraulics for over 55 years. PHI is the leading Premier Full Line Parker® Distributor in NY, NJ and CT with ParkerStore™ locations throughout the Tri-State area.

We’re growing fast, and looking for a highly motivated, proactive, and driven person to join our Sales Team as a full time MRO Sales Associate who lives on Long Island (preferred) or Kings County, Queens County, Nassau County or Suffolk County and would claim the NY Metro Territory as their PHI playground (Everywhere in those areas).

Who we’re looking for

As an MRO Sales Associate, you’ll tap into your natural problem-solving abilities by cultivating new and existing customer relationships by understanding their manufacturing pain points and delivering fluid power solutions to boost their productivity, lower costs and reduce unplanned downtime.

We’ll provide product training and teach you about our business – the nuances of our Parker® Distributorship, fluid power (hydraulics, pneumatics and motion control) and the markets in that territory (infrastructure, transportation, military, construction and industrial machinery).

Having experience in the field would be awesome, but being mechanically inclined and the willingness to learn is just as great. Your Supervisor will help refine your sales skills and provide technical guidance to close deals.

You’ll get in front of customers and apply your critical thinking prowess to offer solutions that remedy real-world conundrums. This means that you’ll spend the majority of your time cultivating new business with target accounts and the rest of your time searching for new accounts that could potentially become new targets.

What does an MRO Sales Associate do for PHI?

Ultimately, the right candidate will help PHI grow by finding new business opportunities. Here are the responsibilities PHI expects an MRO Sales Associate to focus on to help us grow:

  • Manage all Sales Activities in your Target and Territory Accounts
  • Visit job sites as needed to measure or provide client services and/or assist in scheduled physical inventory counts
  • Learn and apply Value Selling vs. Price Selling techniques
  • Support and respond to functional and technical elements of RFQs/RFIs/RFPs SOW and other required documents by customers or prospects
  • Negotiate and establish pricing and terms following PHI’s requirements for customer and transaction profitability
  • Communicate with all levels of customer reps about current/upcoming job/production schedules, new equipment needs, etc.
  • Act as the customer liaison when interacting with different PHI departments (Inside Sales, Fabrication, Engineering, Accounting, Field Sales, Warehouse, Stores and Executives)
  • Remain current with changes in local codes and consumer preferences
  • Attend/Participate in Sales Meetings, Vendor Training, Tradeshows or read Trade Journals to stay current on product and industry knowledge
  • Monitor Customers’ credit status
  • Maintain the post-sales process by acquiring a customer PO, documentation, approval and/or contract review process
  • Provide feedback to the appropriate PHI stakeholders on market activity, competition and other relevant information
  • Execute client retention with continued follow up

Job Requirements you should have

  • Be Mechanically Inclined; Previous experience in a parts store or at least a willingness to learn all things fluid power (hydraulics, pneumatics & fluid connectors)
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree
  • Comfortable with basic math & a tape measure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Great listening skills and empathy for customers
  • Organized, Neat & a Multi-tasker who can heavy objects
  • Be punctual & Have exceptional time management
  • Passing a Background check
  • Valid Driver’s License

And if you have this, even better! (but not a deal breaker if you don’t)

  • Background in hydraulics, fluid connectors and/or pneumatics in an industrial/manufacturing capacity
  • Experience with Sales at a fluid power wholesale parts store
  • Knowledge of Inventory Management Systems or ERP system and CRM, a plus
  • Entirely customer-centric (internal & external)
  • Hydraulics or Fluid Connector Certifications
  • Bilingual Spanish
