What are the responsibilities and job description for the Household Manager and Family Assistant position at Private Household?
Is This You?
Would you describe yourself as warm, quiet and private, and as the person others count on because you are careful, conscientious and organized? Do you like clear routines and a defined way of doing things, yet stay calm and accurate when several time-sensitive things need you at once? Are you naturally efficient, a strong problem solver, and someone who follows through without being reminded? Do you have a heart for excellence, taking pride in doing things well even when no one is checking?
About Our Family
We are a dynamic family with three school-aged children and four dogs, living on an acreage just outside Lincoln. We both work full time in demanding jobs, and we are looking for one highly organized person to run our home day to day.
The Job in Brief
A cleaning team comes once a week for the deep clean. Everything in between is yours: the house, household projects and vendors, and the after-school hours with our kids. This is a hands-on role. You do the work yourself rather than overseeing it.
The Home
- Laundry, all the way through: washed, folded, put away, never backed up
- Daily tidying and resets, so the house is in order every day, not just on cleaning day
- Organizing closets, pantry, garage and storage so the system holds, then keeping it that way
- Linens and stain care
- Groceries and regular meal prep
- Household calendars, appointments, online orders and returns, and keeping us ahead of what is coming up: school breaks, in-service days and deadlines
- Being the first stop for home technology hiccups (Wi-Fi, TVs, smart-home devices, printers), and knowing when to call in help
- Vehicle service and scheduling
- Care for our four dogs
Projects and Vendors
Things get started in our house and never quite get finished: a repair nobody came back for, a quote nobody followed up on. That is the gap we are hiring for.
You will research and vet contractors and service providers, get competing quotes, and bring us a recommendation. Once we hire someone, you schedule the work, are there while it happens, and hold them to what they promised. You keep a running list of open projects and where each one stands, so we can check it instead of asking.
With Our Kids
After school is the most important part of the day: a snack ready, homework started, piano practiced, chores done. We set the expectations, and you hold them kindly and consistently. There is some driving to activities and appointments. Our kids need a warm, steady adult they are glad to see.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. No weekend work is anticipated.
Some days start earlier, around 7:30 AM: school holidays, in-service days, and the occasional day a child is home sick. Some we will know weeks ahead and some we will not. We appreciate your flexibility on those days, will adjust your hours to balance them out, and would welcome your help getting them on the calendar early.
This is dedicated working time, so your own children cannot join you during the workday.
Who We Are Looking For
- Several years running a household, or comparable work in operations, office or property management, or executive support.
- Comfortable being firm with vendors, and direct in how you communicate: a short end-of-day update, and a heads-up before something slips, not after.
- Discreet, and able to work closely with two direct, fast-moving people without taking it personally.
- A history of staying in jobs. This is a long-term position.
- Comfortable with dogs, and in a home where the Christian faith is part of daily life.
- A valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, a clean driving record, strong references, and the ability to pass a background check.
What We Offer
- Salary of $65,000–$75,000, depending on experience
- 12 days of paid time off, plus paid major holidays
- Health, dental and vision insurance
- 401(k)
