What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Tax Accountant position at Private Equity?
The Senior Tax Associate will support the tax compliance, planning, and reporting needs of private equity funds and their portfolio companies. This role works closely with internal finance teams, external advisors, and investment professionals to ensure accurate and timely tax filings across complex fund structures.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for private equity funds, management companies, and portfolio entities (partnerships, corporations, and LLCs).
- Review and analyze K-1s, investor allocations, and waterfall calculations.
- Support quarterly and annual tax provisions, including deferred tax analysis.
- Assist with tax structuring, transactions, and entity formations related to acquisitions, dispositions, and restructurings.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors and fund administrators to ensure timely and accurate filings.
- Research and interpret tax law changes impacting private equity funds and investments.
- Respond to investor tax inquiries and support audit and regulatory requests.
- Maintain strong documentation and controls to support compliance and reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax, or related field (Master’s in Tax preferred).
- CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred.
- 3–6 years of tax experience for private equity, hedge funds, alternative investment, or oil & gas industires.
- Strong knowledge of partnership taxation and pass-through entities.
- Experience with complex fund structures and multi-state filings.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with tax software (e.g., GoSystem, UltraTax) a plus.
