Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Bindery Supervisor to lead daily operations in our bindery/finishing department. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for advanced machine setup, operation, troubleshooting, basic repair, quality control, employee direction, and operator training.


The ideal candidate will have strong experience with cutting machines and folding equipment, along with the ability to organize people, equipment, and workflow to complete high-volume production accurately and on time.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead daily bindery operations to ensure jobs are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
  • Review job jackets, proofs, samples, layouts, and instructions to determine job requirements.
  • Perform advanced make-ready, setup, and operation of cutting machines, folders, and related finishing equipment.
  • Assign and deploy department employees based on workload, deadlines, job complexity, skill level, and equipment availability.
  • Train employees to become bindery operators, including machine setup, safe operation, quality checks, troubleshooting, and job jacket review.
  • Monitor production flow, identify bottlenecks, and adjust labor or job sequencing as needed.
  • Verify finished work against job specifications, proofs, samples, and company quality standards.
  • Enter or verify production data in the company’s production tracking system.
  • Communicate job status, quality concerns, material needs, staffing issues, and equipment problems to management.
  • Ensure employees follow company SOPs, quality procedures, safety rules, and job-specific instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, efficient, and safe work area.


Required Qualifications

  • Ability to direct employees and coordinate labor in a high-volume production environment.
  • Significant experience in bindery, finishing, post-press, or commercial print production.
  • Strong understanding of commercial print, offset printing, bindery, finishing, and mailing terminology.
  • Strong with the ability to perform advanced setups, adjustments, troubleshooting, and basic repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret job jackets, proofs, samples, layouts, measurements, and production schedules.
  • Ability to train employees from helper level toward independent operator ability.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality defects.
  • Strong computer skills: , production tracking software, etc.
  • Ability to perform basic math, including measurements, fractions, decimals, counts, and quantity calculations.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Dependable, organized, quality-focused, and able to work well under pressure.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, push, pull, and move throughout the shift.
  • Ability to lift 10–15 pounds continuously and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to use hands, wrists, and arms continuously in controlled, repetitive movements.
  • Ability to visually inspect printed and finished materials for defects.
  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery, blades, rollers, belts, and pinch points.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced production environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.


Work Environment

This position works in a production and bindery environment with exposure to moving machinery, cutting and folding equipment, printed materials, paper dust, noise, and fast-paced production schedules. The employee must follow all safety procedures and help ensure department employees work safely and use required PPE.

Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
