About This Role:
The Wellness and Prevention Specialist works directly and collaboratively with community members to coordinate mental health promotion and addiction and suicide prevention strategies for the Greater Prince William area. Qualified applicants will plan, develop, design, and conduct wellness and prevention activities and events for youth, parents, professionals, schools, agencies, groups, and community members. The WP Specialist is expected to establish a strategic vision for service delivery using community data and the Strategic Prevention Framework to guide initiatives and ensure data is correctly entered in the state data systems and meets the performance expectations. A successful candidate will be comfortable speaking to larger audiences and engaging community members and professionals both virtually via social media and our website and in-person. The WP Specialist will participate in community events and health fairs to educate residents and professionals about substance use and mental health issues and provide behavioral health promotion messages. An ideal member of the WP Team will be familiar with and comfortable facilitating research-based trainings for community members, such as Mental Health First Aid, REVIVE, Lock & Talk, QPR, and others. A WP team member should be knowledgeable of and embrace the values and practices of behavioral health equity and trauma-informed practices and be able to provide service delivery in a culturally competent, equitable, and respectful manner.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in psychology, counseling, or a related behavioral science field
- 2 years of experience in the delivery of human services in a prevention program
Preferences:
- Certified Prevention Specialist in Virginia
- Ability to manage website and social media with relevant and engaging public health messages
- Training and experience providing 1 or more Evidence-Based Wellness and Prevention Programs
- Training in the Strategic Prevention Framework, logic models, and Substance Abuse Prevention skills
- Certified as a Mental Health First Aid – Youth and/or Adult trainer
- Trained to be a trainer in REVIVE
- Bilingual English/Spanish is helpful but not required
Special Requirements:
- Must possess a valid driver's license. Must pass DMV record check
- Must pass TB test
- Must pass and maintain first aid and CPR certification
- Offer of employment is contingent upon the candidate passing a fingerprint-based National Criminal History Record Check. - Child Protective Services Requirements: Effective 1999, mandated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services 12VA35-105-400 rules and Regulations for Licensing Providers by the Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services related to Criminal Registry Checks, a search of the registry of founded complaints of child abuse and neglected maintained by the Department of Social Services.
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday. Must be able to work at least one weeknight per week and one weekend day a month
Starting Salary Range: $76,069 - $88,167
