The Prince George's County Board of Elections is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill temporary Drop Box Technician, (Data Coordinator), grade G13 position, in the Election Operations division.

About The Position

Prince George’s County Board of Elections is currently seeking qualified individuals to fill the temporary drop box technician personnel position in the Board of Elections. This job is in preparation for the Gubernatorial Elections. The available hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The applicant must have excellent computer skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and must be able to work in a fast-paced environment which is stressful. You must be a team player. The applicant must also be willing to assist with the training. Person(s) must be able to pay attention to detail. Must be able to read and understand written directions. Must be highly motivated to do an excellent job. Must have good interpersonal skills and be able to get along well with co-workers. You will be expected to travel to different polling places during the election cycle. In order to meet election-related deadlines; mandatory overtime is imposed that will include weekends, holidays, and evening hours in some cases.

About The Agency

The mission of the Prince George's County Board of Elections is to promote voter education, administer an efficient voting process, maintain an accurate voter registration database, and ensure that elected officials are elected in accordance with Federal, State, and County election laws. The Board of Elections is responsible for the supervision of elections, voter registration and record keeping, and the administration of election laws in Prince George's County, in accordance with The Election Law Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland. The Board and the Election Administrator seek to provide voter registration to every County citizen who wants it.

Examples of Work

  • Picks up ballots and transfers mail in ballots from the various ballot drop box locations across the county and you will be reimbursed for mileage and support polling places on Early Voting and Election Day.
  • Performs tasks and duties assigned within responsibility level of this class of work.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with training in basic computer systems.
  • Six months of experience at a Data Entry Operator II level.

or

  • Two (2) years of experience in data entry/processing.

Conditions of Employment: Upon selection, the candidate must:

  • Be a resident and registered voter in the State of Maryland.
  • Have reliable transportation as travel to polling places and drop boxes is required.
  • Must be able to lift at least 60 lbs.
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
  • Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings.
  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
  • Be willing to adhere to the nature of the service provided by this agency, all employees are considered essential during an election cycle. The election cycle begins three months prior to an election and continues one month following the election or until the election is certified. As an essential employee you WILL NOT be authorized to take leave during an election cycle. Additionally, you will be required to work specified weekends and holidays.

General Plan Information

The Prince George’s County benefits plan year is from January 1 to December 31.

A spouse (to include a same sex spouse) can be added to the health benefit plans. A marriage certificate and social security number is required to add a spouse.

Children under the age of 26 are eligible for coverage under the health benefit plans. This includes stepchildren and children of the same-sex spouse. A birth certificate(s) and social security number(s) is required to add a child(ren). If you are only adding the stepchildren or child(ren) of a same-sex spouse, you will need to submit a marriage certificate. You will also need to submit the birth certificate of the child(ren) and your spouse must be listed as a parent.

The premiums for health benefits are deducted on a pre-tax basis with the exception of Long-Term Disability, Extra Life Insurance and Voluntary Benefits (Short-Term Disability, Whole Life Insurance, Critical Illness, Accident Insurance, Cancer Indemnity, Hospital Indemnity Protection, Accident Indemnity Plan, Supplemental Dental and Group Legal Services).

New employees must enroll in the County’s health benefit plans within thirty (30) days of the hire date.

The effective date of the health benefits coverage is the beginning of the month following a waiting period of forty-five (45) days from the date of hire.

After enrolling in the County’s benefit plans, employees may only make changes to the plans either during the open enrollment period, which occurs annually (usually each October), and/or during the year, due to a family status change (i.e., marriage, births, divorce and adoption).
