The Prince George's County Office of Community Relations is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill Community Liaison (Community Developer 1) grade G18 positions, in the Common Ownership Communities division.

About The Position

This is an entry-level to full-performance-level professional work providing key support to the Common Ownership Communities Unit in the Office of Community Relations. Under the guidance of the Director and the Common Ownership Communities Unit Chief, the incumbent effectively manages relationships with communities and promotes programs designed to foster social cohesion. Specific responsibilities include distributing and disseminating promotional and programmatic materials, planning, coordinating, and researching data associated with key projects to ensure accurate collection and presentation. Additionally, perform community outreach through speaking engagements, informational fairs, and other events. The position develops strategic partnerships, programs, and initiatives that promote the success of communities throughout Prince George’s County. The incumbent collaborates with other departments, special programs, and affiliated organizations to infuse the interests of communities throughout all programs, events, and publicity, and to create greater mutual access between the government and communities. The individual who works in this position is an essential employee.

The Office of Community Relations ensures that County residents connect with government resources, agencies and personnel. Our responsibility is to serve as a bridge between government and its people. We do so by using data driven analysis and input received from constituents. We are dedicated to a world class service delivery model and ensuring Prince George’s County residents know that they can count on the Office of Community Relations to be highly visible, accessible and accountable.

Examples of Work

  • Maintains interdepartmental working relationships and promotes the public awareness of the Office of Community Relations in order to coordinate the delivery of services and increase the number of persons serviced.
  • Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of diverse communities, including community demographics; community organizations and leaders; community issues and community dynamics/sensitivities.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with representatives of ethnic community organizations, religious organizations, state/local government, non-government service providers, police and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Schedules meetings and preparation activities to promote the Commission on Common Ownership Communities' mission
  • Coordinates the community registration and case management intake and tracking system for each stage of the administrative hearing program process and other mandates imposed on the COC Unit.
  • Informs community representatives of government decisions, changes in policy and other relevant matters which may impact communities.
  • Serves as point of contact for Common Ownership Community issues related to this sector.
  • Provides current and comprehensive program and organizational development resources to common ownership communities including information on program support, volunteer recruitment and government services.
  • Assists in the coordination and implementation of a variety of special events, public relations projects and exhibits generated by the Office of Community Relations to reflect the needs and interests of diverse communities.
  • Works with and makes public presentations to constituents, groups and businesses in order to promote the Office of Community Relations and Common Ownership Communities Unit.
  • Represents the Office of Community Relations and promote its interest at the community and inter-agency level.
  • Researches, drafts and creates materials for presentations and events.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and retrievable recorded data, statistics and documentation for inclusion in reports or to provide information to support validity and success specially assigned projects and programs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications listed below to be eligible for additional consideration:

  • Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, social services, sociology, psychology, or related field.
  • Responsible work experience which includes coordination of group activities, preferably including work with disadvantaged individuals and/or community involvement.

Conditions of Employment: Upon selection, the candidate must (where applicable):

  • Be willing to work in office and travel to attend events and visit meeting sites during and after-hours.
  • Be able to work evenings and weekends.
  • Be able to stand or walk for long periods of time and lift to 30 pounds.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties.
  • Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings.
  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
