The Prince George’s County Health Department is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Administrative Aide, (Administrative Aide I/II) grade A13-A15 position, in the Health and Wellness Division.

About The Position

The incumbent works as a full-service Administrative Aide with the Maryland Children’s Health Program (MCHP). The employee in this position performs moderate to difficult office responsibilities. Responsibilities extend to conveying important administrative information concerning work- related functions and processes set by the Program Chief and Program Managers.

The PGCHD works to protect and support the public’s health through numerous services that range from restaurant inspections and disease tracking to care coordination and health promotion. The department is composed of four divisions: Behavioral Health Services, Environmental Health and Disease Control, Family Health Services, and Health and Wellness, supported by the Office of Administration, Office of Human Resources and the Office of the Health Officer. The mandate of the department has been, and will remain, broad. This plan emphasizes improving core functions and operations, including protecting the public from health threats, implementing strategies to support healthy living, and maintaining a focus on vulnerable populations, while developing efficient internal processes to support these activities.

Examples of Work

  • Screens telephone calls and incoming mail.
  • Types a variety of memos, reports, utilizing automated office equipment.
  • Proofreads and edits materials on information pertaining to the program.
  • Order and maintain adequate office supplies at all times.
  • Establish and maintain a filing system.
  • Maintain office accounts, including reports of expenditures and perform related purchasing functions.
  • Coordinates meetings and schedules to ensure the efficiency of office operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with coursework in typing, office practices or other related clerical subjects.
  • One (1) year of advanced diverse and/or technical clerical experience which must have involved working with the public for at least six (6) months.

Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience will also be accepted. Applicants must be proficient in typing and in shorthand where required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience performing administrative and secretarial responsibilities using computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Gmail.
  • Course work in clerical subjects and experience with working with the public.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.

Conditions of Employment: Upon selection, the candidate must:

  • Pass an administered Administrative Aide exam. Applicants who have previously taken and passed the exam on or after 8/1/2024will not be required to re-test. Previous passing test scores will be applied.
  • Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
  • Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable.
  • Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings, where applicable.
  • Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
