The Accounting Specialist/Staff Accountant will be responsible for a range of accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, collections, and account reconciliations. Additionally, this position will assist with standard weekly and monthly financial reporting.
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**
- Proficient in computer skills, including a strong working knowledge of Excel, Outlook, and Word. Experience with accounting software is required.
- Understanding of GAAP and standard accounting processes, along with checks and balances.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Accurate data entry and word processing skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to conduct oneself professionally, solve problems, and identify new methods to improve and implement efficiencies within the organization.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all client information.
- Deliver superior customer service and effectively address inquiries.
**Qualifications**
- A degree in accounting or 5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
- Accounting experience should include accounts payable, accounts receivable, general journal entries, ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Healthcare experience is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and reporting is preferred.
- Experience in an actual accounting environment is desirable.
**Responsibilities and Expectations**
- Responsible for all accounting data entry and journal entry preparation.
- Timely processing of accounts payable and maintaining updated vendor files.
- Tracking and entering company credit card activity.
- Accurately and promptly posting cash payments received from customers into the accounting system.
- Completing monthly reconciliations of cash receipts and disbursements.
- Managing accounts receivable and collections for clients.
- Ensuring the accuracy of client trust accounts.
- Preparing bank deposits, general ledger postings, and statements.
- Reconciling accounts in a timely manner.
- Researching, tracking, and resolving accounting or documentation discrepancies.
- Assisting in the preparation and distribution of weekly/monthly financial reports.
- Aiding with tax reporting.
- Recording and maintaining a fixed asset list and depreciation schedule.
- Preparing for the annual audit and collaborating with the accounting team during the audit process.
- Taking on assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision and completing tasks within a reasonable timeframe.
