The Tax/Accounting Analyst will support tax accounting, reporting, and compliance activities across a complex, multi-jurisdictional regulated utility environment. This role suits an accounting professional with 1–5 years of experience who wants to build a long-term career in tax. Working across tax filings, accruals, reconciliations, audits, and financial close activities, this position offers hands-on exposure to both accounting and tax while supporting the organization's continued growth.
Responsibilities
- Prepare tax accruals and maintain supporting calculations and workpapers.
- Prepare and file state and local tax returns, including sales and use tax filings.
- Support property tax reporting and compliance activities.
- Reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Support month-end and year-end close activities related to tax accounting.
- Prepare documentation and respond to information requests supporting tax audits.
- Monitor tax filing deadlines and maintain accurate compliance records.
- Research applicable tax regulations and requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
- Maintain tax documentation, schedules, and supporting financial records.
- Support the development and improvement of tax processes and internal controls.
- Collaborate with Accounting, Finance, and other stakeholders on tax reporting and compliance requirements.
- Build knowledge of tax regulations, compliance requirements, and accounting practices through hands-on experience and independent research.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- 1–5 years of professional accounting and/or tax experience.
- Accounting experience with a demonstrated interest in developing a long-term career in tax will be considered.
- Experience with general ledger account reconciliations, financial close activities, or financial reporting.
- Experience preparing tax accruals or supporting tax filings preferred.
- Knowledge of state and local tax compliance processes preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working with ERP or financial accounting systems.
- Exposure to state and local tax (SALT) requirements preferred.
- Utility, energy, or regulated industry experience preferred.
- Ability to independently research accounting and tax requirements and apply new concepts.
- Ability to work a four-day onsite/one-day remote hybrid schedule in New Orleans, LA.
