Controller/Accounting Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented financial controller/finance manager to oversee comprehensive financial operations across our organization.
This postion supports a retail group of less than 8 locations in CT. This postion also leads the accounting team of 3. .
This pivotal role involves managing all aspects of accounting functions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing accurate financial reporting.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in corporate accounting, demonstrating proficiency with various accounting software platforms and a deep understanding of financial concepts.
This position offers an opportunity to contribute significantly to the organization’s financial health and operational efficiency through meticulous bookkeeping, account reconciliation, and financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Ownership: Manage the complete accounting cycle with total autonomy, from daily entries to year-end closing.
- Reporting & Analysis: Prepare and present monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet) and provide insights on shop performance, labor efficiency, and parts margins.
- Parts & Inventory Management: Audit and reconcile parts invoices with Repair Orders (ROs) to ensure accurate gross profit and capture all vendor credits/returns.
- Cash Flow Management: Oversee bank reconciliations, credit card processing, and daily cash flow monitoring.
- Payroll & HR Admin: Process payroll for technicians and advisors, including complex commission/bonus calculations and tax filings.
What You Bring to the Table
- Professional Experience: 5 years of accounting experience. If you’ve worked in the automotive repair or service industry, that’s a major plus!
- Controller Mindset: You don’t just record data; you look for discrepancies, monitor margins, and help the owner spot trends.
- Software Adaptability: You are proficient in general accounting software (QuickBooks, etc.). We will provide full training on our industry-specific shop management software.
- Independence: You are a self-starter who can manage a professional team.
