Job Roles & Responsibilities
- Doctrinal Publishing Oversight: Navigate end-to-end joint or Service doctrine development lifecycle, ensuring all publications adhere to specific standards and timelines.
- Content Refinement: Edit highly technical documents for order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology, ensuring the "warfighter’s voice" is consistent across all chapters.
- Advanced Document Formatting: Utilize expert-level features of software tools to manage complex document layouts, including the integration of tables, figures, and hierarchical heading structures.
- Multi-Platform Design: Leverage a suite of professional software (including Microsoft Word, Adobe, CorelDraw, and Photoshop) to create and edit both text and graphic elements within doctrinal publications.
- Standardization Enforcement: Act as the final gatekeeper for official style guides, ensuring that all terminology and formatting comply with established DoD or Service-level protocols.
- Quality Assurance: Provide mentorship and oversight equivalent to a lead editor, evaluating the work of junior contributors to maintain the highest standards of professional publication.
- Travel may be required
Experience Requirements:
Candidates must demonstrate successful performance in at least three (3) of the following areas:
- Professional Editorial Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience at a level equivalent to the Editor category.
- Doctrinal Expertise: Mastery of the joint or Service doctrine development and publishing processes.
- Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with specialized editing and graphic software such as Adobe Acrobat, CorelDraw, and Photoshop, in addition to Microsoft Office.
- Technical Formatting: Expert knowledge of advanced document formatting features (e.g., style panes, section breaks, and automated cross-referencing).
- Stylistic Precision: Proven ability to edit complex documents according to rigid standards for style, flow, and terminology.
- A Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Management Science, or a related field.
- No degree required if the candidate possesses at least 5 years of demonstrated success in the technical editing and publishing areas listed above.
