Job Roles & Responsibilities
- Doctrine Publishing Management: Navigate and execute Joint and Service doctrine development and publishing processes, ensuring documents move through required lifecycle milestones.
- Content Refinement: Edit complex documents to meet established standards for order, clarity, and conciseness. Ensure the correct use of military terminology and stylistic consistency.
- Advanced Document Formatting: Utilize the full suite of document formatting features within enterprise software to create structured, professional layouts that adhere to specific military branding and regulatory guidelines.
- Graphic & Layout Integration: Coordinate integration of visual elements using industry-standard editing and design software, ensuring technical illustrations and text work together seamlessly.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct final reviews to ensure all publications are free of grammatical errors and strictly follow the prescribed "style manual" for the specific command or agency.
- Travel may be required
Experience Requirements:
Candidates must demonstrate successful performance in at least two (2) of the following areas:
- Publishing Lifecycle Knowledge: Proven understanding of processes used to develop and publish Joint or Service-level doctrine.
- Software Proficiency: Expert-level experience with editing and design software, specifically Microsoft Word (advanced formatting), Adobe Acrobat, CorelDraw, and Photoshop. Hands-on experience with advanced software features such as automated tables of contents, cross-referencing, and complex document nesting.
- Editorial Excellence: Demonstrated experience editing technical or military documents for flow, terminology, and adherence to formal style guides.
- Linguistic Accuracy: Mastery of modern English grammar and ability to maintain a professional "voice" across high-level military publications.
- Associate Degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution in Business Management, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- No degree provided the candidate has at least 2 years of direct experience in the technical editing and publishing areas listed above.
