What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Laborer position at Prescott Metal?
The General Laborer is responsible for helping pack finished parts, runs the Parts Tumbler and Bead Blast machines as well as other duties within the machine shop.
- Assist in packing finished machined part for delivery.
- Check that all safety devices/machine guarding are in place and operational.
- Perform daily maintenance and safety checks.
- Maintain log of preventive maintenance on daily/weekly schedule according to manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Set up and safe operation of various equipment including parts tumbler, bead-blast booth and hand-held deburring/grinding tools.
- Alert supervisor of any maintenance or repairs that require outside services.
- Observe machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction.
- Notify supervisor of any problems and suggest changes.
- Assists other staff as needed in the various phases of the machining processes.
- Keep the area clean, neat and orderly to prevent slips, trips, and falls.
- Help clean up other parts of the shop when asked.
- Operation of forklift/pallet jack.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned to help Tee Enterprises achieve its goals.
Inspection Requirements:
- Check for any material defects or damage.
- Verify quantity.
Physical Demands/ Work Conditions:
- The General Laborer stands (8-10 hours/day), walking, stooping and reaching, as well as frequently lifting manually and/or moving material up to 50 pounds. Periodically sits down when deburring parts or running the tumbler.
- Normal exposure production/manufacturing environment subject to dust, metal shavings, and machinery oil.
- HS Diploma/GED or vocational tech school.
- Strong mechanical ability.
- Experience in packing parts.
- Complete training on pallet jack or forklift.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and cross functional interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic, integrity, initiative, and “can-do” attitude.
- Ability to work in a “team environment.”
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
