Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • It is the responsibility of all quality-control personnel to ensure customer parts conform to customer documents and record any discrepancies.
  • Measure work-piece dimensions throughout the fabrication operation to ensure conformance and repeatability. 
  • Notify the supervisor of any problems and suggest changes that will allow jobs and projects to run more efficiently.
  • Follows established procedures for documenting inspection process.
  • Tag parts for acceptance or rejection.
  • Maintain Materials Review Board (MRB) area of non-conforming parts and adhere to non-conforming material processes.
  • Ensure all measuring equipment is properly cleaned, calibrated, and certified.
  • Keep work area neat and orderly to prevent slips, trips, and falls.
  • Keep documentation organized.
  • Inspection of Jigs and Fixtures when necessary.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned to help Prescott Metal achieve its goals.

1st Article Inspection

  • Provides documentation requested by the customer for a first time run. Required criteria is typically given by each customer.
  • Prescott’s standard 1st article inspection.
  • Inspect part 100%.
  • Provide all necessary paperwork that is required by the customer.
  • Issue COC.

Initial inspection

  • All dimensions are checked off.
  • The controlled document is then stamped with a red INSP stamp, initialed, and dated by the inspector.
  • Inspects jigs and fixtures.

Preliminary inspection

  • Solve document issues.
  • Verify job traveler and identification tag has correct information.
  • Incoming inspection for purchased items as required.
  • Verify forming orientation.
  • Critical dimensions. 
  • Verify correct material.
  • Check for burrs and sharp edges, tapped holes, counter sink holes, hardware.
  • Welding.
  • On the laser check for burrs inside holes and cut outs.
  • On the punch press check for proper hole size.
  • Verify quantity.
  • Verify frame and fabrication finishes.
  • Interpret powder coat masking on blueprints.

Final inspection

  • Incoming inspection for Operation’s Standard Operating Procedures (OSOP).
  • Cosmetic after parts are hung.
  • Help track 1st articles and ensure all paperwork is completed and filed appropriately.
  • Final assembly check.
  • Silk screening completed.
  • Stamping.
  • Proper packaging.
Qualifications:

Technical Knowledge Required:

  • Understand the processes of 1st article inspection, Initial inspection, Preliminary inspection, In-process inspection, Final inspection, and Incoming Inspection.
  • Knowledge of customer expectations.
  • Proficient at interpreting mechanical drawings.
  • Convert decimals and fractions, related to what shows on the Job Traveler (work order)/blueprints.
  • Have a good understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Strong math and geometry skills.
  • Interpret Job Travelers.
  • Understand Cut Lists and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Utilize tape measure, dial caliper, Versa gauge, and all other inspection equipment.
  • Ability to maintain Part Process Change Request (PPCR) and Defect Tracking database.
  • Ability to calibrate precision instruments and tape measures.
  • Provide all necessary paperwork that is required by the customer.
  • Understand the process of Certificate of Conformance (COC).
  • Knowledge of frame general metal fabrication and assorted finishes.
  • The inspector must have mechanical ability as well as ability to interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Trained on the battery-operated pallet jack.

Physical Demands/ Work Conditions:

  • The Inspector stands for 8-10 hours per day, walking, stooping, and reaching, as well as frequently lifting manually and/or moving material up to 50 pounds.
  • Normal exposure to production/manufacturing environment subject to dust, metal shavings, machinery oil, and powder coating- and occasional office environment.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Safety Glasses while on the shop floor.
  • Gloves when handling material.
  • Earplugs if next to operating machinery.
  • Safety shoes.
