What are the responsibilities and job description for the Logistics Manager position at PREMIER UNDERGROUND CONSTRUCTION LLC?
The Logistics Manager is responsible for strategically planning and managing logistics, shop, transportation and equipment care. The Logistics Manager will be required to handle technical details relating to transportation, such as DOT regulations and any necessary documentation. You will be required to efficiently evaluate the costs of transportation, services and inventory within any budget or distribution strategy. The Logistics Manager must have a knowledge of import/export legislation and must be able to effectively solve any problems that may arise in the transportation of equipment and materials. For a Logistics Manager, documentation and organization is important. Any changes to operating procedures, prioritization or any problems must be documented and communicated accurately. Depending upon the role being offered, fluency in a foreign language may be required, as well as an awareness of different cultures and a diplomatic approach to any associated conflicts.
The Logistics Manager will schedule all deliveries and pick up of equipment and materials to the appropriate job site. They will provide leadership to our transportation team, material handlers, mechanics, and other logistics staff. The Logistics Manager will also be responsible for prioritizing tasks to meet expected delivery and pick up dates. Maintaining an accurate inventory of stored materials and equipment is also a very essential part of the job. This job has been classified by PUC as containing Safety Sensitive Functions as well as being Security Sensitive.
Transportation Department
- Authorizes and schedules all requests for the transportation department and prioritizes those with end of day requirements.
- Schedules drivers through Vista software and e-mail, meanwhile, prioritizes requests according to urgency and importance.
- Coordinates delivery and pick-ups of materials, equipment and tools while applying company policies and procedures.
- Oversee and confirm the proper storage all digital copies of material and equipment delivery confirmations.
- Authorizes purchases of materials and parts needed within the Transportation Department.
- Materials & Small Tools Department
- Authorizes and schedules all work orders for the Materials and Small Tools Department and prioritizes those with end of day requirements.
- Collects and analyzes all truck tool inventory received from Foremen and Operators and schedules inventory replenishment if necessary.
- Oversees material and small tools work orders to the Material Handler in a timely and accurate manner.
- Authorizes purchases of material, equipment and parts needed within the Materials and Small Tools Department.
- Frequent site visits for onsite equipment and vehicle inspections.
- Mechanical/Equipment Repair Department
- Authorizes and coordinates all work orders for the Mechanical/Equipment Repair Department and prioritizes those with end of day requirements.
- Authorizes and issues maintenance work orders to the Lead Mechanic for equipment and vehicles up for servicing.
- Authorizes repair and maintenance work orders for any equipment inspected and listed on daily trench logs and inspections list.
Timecards
- Approves/Rejects timecards for all employees within the logistics department and submits them in a timely and accurate manner.
- Review certified payroll for logistics employees.
Billing and Expense
- Maintains and analyzes records of all material inventory and their pricing.
- Uses advanced knowledge of vendor pricing for profitable job/project outcomes.
- Proven working experience as a Logistics Manager
- Record of successful distribution and logistics management
- Ability to lead, manage and train staff
- Proficient in standard logistics software
- Must be educated to degree level and may also be required to hold any relevant qualifications and systems training associated with Logistics Management, as well as experience in the Logistics sector
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
- Must have effective communication skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks all with an attention to fine detail
- Must be numeric and be able to demonstrate an understanding of basic accountancy
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Manage logistics personnel and logistics systems and direct daily operations
- BS in Business Administration, Logistics or Educational and Experience combination
- Must have previous warehouse leadership experience
