Recreational Activity Aide (full time)

Willow Terrace is looking for an energetic and motivated individual with a passion for improving quality of life for residents in a Long-Term Care setting.

The Activity Aide is an integral part of our team. We are looking for the right candidate who has a great personality, loves working with the elderly and has experience in activity programming.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing and leading of recreational activities based on the needs and interest of the residents and as directed by the Director of Recreation.
  • Recreation services may include sports, dramatics, horticulture, social recreation, sensory programming, games, arts and crafts and more.
  • Encouraging social communication through group recreation.
  • Provides programs of sensory stimulation, reality orientation, re-motivation, and re-socialization on an individual and group basis.
  • Assists residents with participation in religious programs.
  • Assists residents with leisure recreation.
  • Visits bed-ridden residents and non-participants and provides appropriate recreation services.
  • Documents resident attendance and participation level at recreation programs. May assist with writing progress notes, if applicable.
  • Maintenance of recreation department supplies at appropriate inventory levels and stores supplies in an organized manner.
  • Assist with transporting residents to and from recreation programs and social areas.
  • Assist with admission assessments, MDS, care plans, and progress notes.
  • Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individuals’ needs and rights.


Other Duties

  • Interacts with residents, families, visitors, facility and corporate staff.
  • Carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention/participation may be required.
  • May be required to work rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, additional hours, and in different positions as the facility’s needs require.
  • Must follow the dress code requirements.
  • Must communicate affectively with Activity Director and department co-workers.


Qualifications

  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Must have verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have well-developed organizational skills.
  • Must possess creativity, patience and understanding as it pertains to functional activities for residents with Dementia.
  • Must be able to perform record keeping and documentation as necessary.
  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with staff, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, and the general public.


Language Skills

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with patients, families, community members, volunteers and other staff on a daily basis. Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with long-term care patients and the elderly.
