Job Summary:
The Medical Billing and Collections Specialist is responsible for completing duties assigned from the Accountant as they relate to efficient company operations and high quality patient services. Performs a variety of general accounting support tasks and is responsible for correcting, completing, and processing claims of all payer codes and generating reports from computer in accordance with established procedures.
Duties:
- Review and verify accuracy of billing data and revise any errors
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies
- Follow up on unpaid claims within standard billing cycle timeframe
- Utilize medical coding to ensure compliance with federal regulations
- Investigate and appeal denied claims
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of insurance policies and procedures
- Communicate with patients regarding billing and insurance matters
Experience:
- Spanish speaker
- Prior experience in medical billing, coding, or collections
- Proficiency in ICD-9, ICD-10, DRG, and medical terminology
- Familiarity with medical office systems and procedures
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with patients and insurance companies
This position requires knowledge of medical collection processes, ICD codes, and medical terminology. Experience in medical billing, coding, and working within a medical office setting is essential. Experience with Medicaid billing/collections preferred.
