Metal Prep Lead
The Metal Prep Lead is responsible for overseeing daily operations within the metal preparation and machining department. This role supervises employees, coordinates workflow, ensures production targets are met, and maintains safe operation of fabrication and machining equipment including press brakes, lasers, milling machines, bandsaws, drill presses, and hydraulic shears. Coordinated production schedules, trained operators, ensured quality standards, maintained workplace safety compliance, and optimized workflow efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily production activities in the metal prep and machining department
- Oversee operation and workflow involving:
- Press brakes
- Laser cutting machines
- Milling machines
- Bandsaws
- Drill presses
- Hydraulic shears
- Assign work orders and prioritize production schedules
- Ensure materials are accurately cut, formed, drilled, and prepared according to specifications
- Monitor machine performance and coordinate basic troubleshooting or maintenance
- Train operators on machine setup, safe operation, and quality standards
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and PPE requirements
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and production documents
- Perform quality inspections on completed parts and assemblies
- Coordinate with welding, fabrication, and shipping departments to maintain production flow
- Track productivity, material usage, and downtime
- Maintain clean and organized work areas
Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in metal fabrication or manufacturing
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of fabrication machinery and metalworking processes
- Ability to read blueprints and use measuring tools accurately
- Experience with machine setup and production scheduling
- Knowledge of workplace safety standards in industrial environments
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations related to machining tolerances.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate a team while maintaining safety standards.
- Knowledge of quality inspection procedures to ensure parts meet specifications before release.
Work Environment:
- Industrial manufacturing/fabrication setting
- Exposure to machinery, noise, dust, and moving equipment
- Standing for long periods and lifting materials may be required
- Overtime and shift flexibility may be necessary
