Laser Operator
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Laser Operator to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating laser cutting equipment to produce high-quality parts according to specifications and production schedules. This role requires strong technical knowledge, blueprint reading skills, and experience with nesting and machine setup.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program, set up, and operate laser cutting machines according to production requirements
- Perform nesting and prepare cutting layouts to maximize material efficiency
- Select appropriate cutting programs, tooling, and fixtures for each job
- Establish proper stop locations and adjust laser beam focal points as required
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders
- Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency
- Perform dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
- Identify and report defective materials, machine issues, or quality concerns
- Troubleshoot equipment and material issues and perform minor adjustments or corrective actions
- Complete routine machine maintenance to ensure equipment remains in good working condition
- Maintain accurate production and material usage records
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and company policies
- Collaborate with team members to ensure production targets and deadlines are met
- Assist with additional production tasks as required
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating laser cutting machines
- Mandatory experience performing nesting
- Ability to independently program, set up, and operate laser equipment
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Experience performing dimensional inspections and quality checks
- Proficient with measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers
- Knowledge of laser safety procedures and manufacturing best practices
- Ability to troubleshoot machine malfunctions and production issues
- Overhead crane certification considered an asset
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs when required
- Comfortable standing for extended periods and handling materials in a manufacturing environment
- Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed
- Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
