Laser Operator

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Laser Operator to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting up, and operating laser cutting equipment to produce high-quality parts according to specifications and production schedules. This role requires strong technical knowledge, blueprint reading skills, and experience with nesting and machine setup.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program, set up, and operate laser cutting machines according to production requirements
  • Perform nesting and prepare cutting layouts to maximize material efficiency
  • Select appropriate cutting programs, tooling, and fixtures for each job
  • Establish proper stop locations and adjust laser beam focal points as required
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders
  • Monitor machine performance and make adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency
  • Perform dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments
  • Identify and report defective materials, machine issues, or quality concerns
  • Troubleshoot equipment and material issues and perform minor adjustments or corrective actions
  • Complete routine machine maintenance to ensure equipment remains in good working condition
  • Maintain accurate production and material usage records
  • Follow all workplace safety procedures and company policies
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure production targets and deadlines are met
  • Assist with additional production tasks as required

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience operating laser cutting machines
  • Mandatory experience performing nesting
  • Ability to independently program, set up, and operate laser equipment
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Experience performing dimensional inspections and quality checks
  • Proficient with measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers
  • Knowledge of laser safety procedures and manufacturing best practices
  • Ability to troubleshoot machine malfunctions and production issues
  • Overhead crane certification considered an asset
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs when required
  • Comfortable standing for extended periods and handling materials in a manufacturing environment
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime as needed
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
