McWilliams Forge is seeking a high-energy, hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to join our Rockaway, NJ team. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, you will be the bridge between design intent and shop floor execution. This role is not for the "desk engineer"—you will spend 80% of your time on the floor, managing the technical health of our CNC shop and Waterjet operations. This role is not for the "desk engineer"—you will spend 80% of your time on the floor, managing the technical health of our CNC shop and Waterjet operations. Your primary mission: maximize throughput in a dynamic environment where priorities can shift by the hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Agility: Rapidly adjust production workflows and machine scheduling to meet changing customer demands and urgent aerospace/military delivery windows.
- CNC & CAM Optimization: Develop and refine CNC programs (Lathes/Mills) using CAM software (Mastercam/NX/SolidWorks) to reduce cycle times and improve first-pass yield.
- Waterjet & Fabrication: Lead the optimization of waterjet cutting processes, including nesting strategies to maximize material utilization and minimize prep time for secondary forging operations. Familiarity with OMAX systems
- Throughput Leadership: Identify bottlenecks in the machine shop and implement immediate technical solutions (tooling changes, fixture improvements, or sub-routine updates).
- Continuous Improvement: Partner with the Plant Manager to drive improvement initiatives, specifically focused on reducing operational times in the CNC department.
- Tooling & Fixturing: Support Design Engineering with specialized work holding on complex forged geometries.
- Experience: 2–5 years of progressive experience in a CNC manufacturing environment
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and a deep understanding of G-code. Experience with Waterjet operation is a significant plus.
- Education: B.S. in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent hands-on experience).
- Mindset: A "bias for action." Ability to troubleshoot a machine issue at 7:00 AM and pivot to a planning meeting by 8:00 AM.
- Industry Standards: Familiarity with AS9100 or NADCAP requirements is highly desirable.
