CONTEXT: Our client is a growing upstream oil & gas operator seeking a JIB Accountant / Accounts Payable Accountant to join their accounting team. This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in getting the work done right.
Direct JIB experience is not required. Candidates with strong oil & gas Accounts Payable experience and a willingness to learn JIB are highly encouraged to apply. Tenure, reliability, and a strong work ethic are key to success in this role.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process high-volume accounts payable for upstream operations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Review, code, and enter invoices related to lease operating expenses (LOE) and field operations.
- Assist with or learn Joint Interest Billing (JIB).
- Coding costs to the correct properties, wells, and AFE’s.
- Supporting JIB billing and partner invoicing.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Work closely with Operations, Land, and Accounting to resolve invoice and coding issues.
- Support month-end close, including accruals and reconciliations related to AP/JIB activity.
- Maintain organized and audit-ready records.
- Assist with special projects and process improvements as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 years of Accounts Payable experience, preferably in upstream oil & gas.
- Strong understanding of invoice coding, vendor management, and AP best practices.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proven tenure and stability in prior roles.
- Strong work ethic — dependable, accountable, and willing to step in where needed.
- Proficient in Excel and accounting systems (e.g., Enertia, SAP, Oracle, OGSYS, Wolfe, QuickBooks, or similar).
