Job summary
The HR Director provides coaching and guidance to site leaders and associates regarding employment issues in areas such as policy and procedure interpretation, dispute resolution, corrective action, leaves of absence, harassment, and terminations. This is a senior leadership role requiring both strategic vision and hands-on execution in a fast-paced, field-driven environment.
Primary responsibilities
- Develop relationships across all levels of the organization to resolve employee relations issues, provide coaching on performance management, and advise on talent development.
- Provide analytics and HRIS data to measure and report on human resources functions.
- Review, interpret, administer, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and company policies.
- Develop and maintain the site's Affirmative Action Program (where applicable), complete required EEO reporting, and ensure EEOC compliance.
- Perform investigations and prepare written responses to EEOC claims, unemployment claims, and similar matters.
- Direct resources and activities to support a culture of prevention, awareness, and accountability across the organization.
- Lead and ensure compliance throughout the entire recruitment lifecycle, including labor union relationships, hiring manager collaboration, sourcing, interviewing, selection, and retention.
- Support the development of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) plans to meet operational goals and reduce accidents, injuries, and incidents.
- Provide day-to-day direction and support to site HR staff, including proactive guidance, troubleshooting, and issue escalation.
QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor's degree with a major or emphasis in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a closely related field
Skills and competencies
- High integrity, sound judgment, and discretion
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in MS Office and HR systems
- Demonstrated experience supporting multiple sites or complex operations strongly preferred
Experience required
- At least 7 years (10 preferred) of demonstrated HR leadership and management experience in distribution, manufacturing, or construction environments
- Some experience interacting with various labor unions
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment while remaining highly detail-oriented
- Ability to operate at a strategic level while executing on day-to-day operational and administrative matters
