Description

The Fine Arts Department at Pratt Institute invites applications for a Visiting Faculty position in the BFA Jewelry area for Fall 2026.

This position is for teaching one undergraduate section of JWLR-305: Jewelry III, a junior-level studio course that emphasizes concept development, advanced metalsmithing techniques, craftsmanship, and contemporary approaches to wearable objects. The course supports students in developing their individual artistic voices while expanding their technical proficiency through a series of studio projects, critiques, demonstrations, and presentations.

Examples of Duties

  • Teach one undergraduate section of JWLR-305: Jewelry III
  • Develop and deliver demonstrations in advanced jewelry and metalsmithing techniques
  • Guide students through concept development, design research, fabrication, and critique
  • Mentor students in the development of technically proficient and conceptually rigorous studio work
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and professional studio environment, ensuring adherence to shop safety and best practices
  • Submit grades and required course materials in accordance with Institute policies

Qualifications

  • MFA or equivalent professional experience in Jewelry, Metalsmithing, Sculpture, or a related field
  • Evidence of an active exhibition record or professional practice
  • Teaching experience at the college level or demonstrated instructional ability
  • Strong technical expertise in jewelry fabrication and metalsmithing processes
  • Experience with both traditional and contemporary fabrication methods, including digital technologies such as laser cutting, 3D printing, and related studio processes
  • Experience with digital design tools such as Rhino (CAD) and Adobe Illustrator to support students in preparing files for laser cutting, CNC, and 3D printing workflows

Supplemental Information

This is a UFCT Local 1460 union position.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications, ranging from $1,800 - $2,000 per contact hour.
